Work on a project, completing a report with practical recommendations. Experience a deeper level of learning through structured reflection throughout the internship. Enhance your CV with the successful completion of your internship Please read through this information guide as it has been prepared to answer many of your questions about this course option.

3 MBA INTERNSHIP COURSE Introduction MBA Elective During their studies there are MBA students who are seeking to experience and transit into a new industry or sector and the MBA Industry Internship provides the opportunity for a student to explore a new interest, while contributing their expertise to an organisation which has a project that needs to get done. The projects that students complete need to be discrete pieces of work of value to the host organisation, even if they form part of a larger team project either underway or initiated during the student s internship. The MBA Industry Internship Program is promoted throughout the academic year and seeks to place students, who have the time and commitment, into organisations for up to 6 months for a number of days per week while they work on a project. The arrangements are flexible to meet the needs of the organisation and the MBA student and will be organised by the Course Facilitator. Students advise the Course Facilitator that they are seeking an internship and this is the stimulus for the coordinator to facilitate an industry placement. The Course Facilitator will meet with the student to explore their goals, interests, professional background, skill set and academic studies. Each MBA student has their own distinctive experience and specialisation and our aim is to match both an organisation s and student s requirements. There may be instances where a student proactively approaches an organisation to discuss the possibility of an internship. In this situation the Course Facilitator will need to ascertain that the organisation is a suitable host and then organises the specific arrangements for the student. When a potential organisation and project are identified for the MBA student, the organisational sponsor will meet with the student as part of the matching process. Once the organisational sponsor gives the go ahead, an offer for an internship is made to the student and upon acceptance they can enrol in the course. The MBA Industry Internship is a learning experience for the student, forming part of their program of studies, so there is no cost to the organisation and students are not paid by the organisation. Only out of pocket expenses that are identifed as part of the project task will be covered by the organisation.

4 STUDENT INFORMATION GUIDE Course Overview The course will run over 2 study periods (i.e. 23) weeks to provide sufficient time to incorporate student briefings, project work and placement at an organisation, the preparation of a written report, presentation to the host organisation and a reflective learning portfolio. A short summary of the course elements is outlined below: Student Briefings (Preliminary) Covering topics such as approaches to project work, preparing a project scope and work plan, communication in a new work place, working as a high performing team member and the role and practice of personal reflection in personal and professional development. Industry Internship Period This period involves the student attending the host organisation as per the number of days agreed to in the placement arrangements, participating as required and working on their project for approximately weeks. Final deliverables a written report and presentation to the host organisation. Ongoing Support and Concluding Briefing Session Ongoing contact will be scheduled with the Course Facilitator. The final briefing will involve a review of the internship and the student s experience. Individual Reflective Learning Portfolio Each student will maintain a personal and professional learning portfolio, which will link student experience and achievements during the period of internship and assist in goal setting and increasing self understanding.
