5 COWTOWN S SEPTEMBER NCCC TMS We wold like to thank ALL of yo that came ot to help host the 14th Annal Sper Speedway Weekend at Texas Motor Speedway; September 17th thr the 19th. We heard lots of great comments from or gests, some stating that this was the best NCCC event that they had ever had the pleasre of attending. Others commented on the excellent hospitality and fellowship of the Satrday Evening festivities while others liked the corse layot Carlanne Hickman something new that challenged their driving skills So, all of s shold be prod of the work yo did in making this event a great sccess!!! We had three Novice NCCC Competitors on Satrday and three more on Snday which were not NCCC nor clb members. We are still finalizing the expenditres, inclding the actal cost of the facility so we hope to have the final income nmbers ot to yo soon. I wold like to provide a high-level recap of the event since we won t be at the October Membership Meeting; especially for those that weren t able to make it ot to the event. Friday, we started arond 3pm at the NEXTEL garage getting things setp; with rigs starting to show p arond 4pm. We took possession of the road corse promptly at 5pm to start setting p the corse and corner worker stations. Registration and Tech started promptly at 6:30pm with two tech lines and a great grop working to competitors registered and their Vettes teched. Satrday morning, we started with registering and teching the entrants who didn t show p on Friday night. The Driver s Meeting at 8:30 followed by corse drive thr with the first car ot was promptly at 9am, as advertised. We had a few timing and printer isses bt no major delays of any kind on Satrday; completing six atocrosses by 3:32 pm. We opted to call it a day to let everyone get back to relax, take a swim and relax before the evening activities. Entrants in the event ranged from a very nice 66 cope all the way p to a ZR-1 and every Vette variation in between. Satrday Night, Phil & Barb had lined p a chef prepared and catered Mexican dinner that was amazing. They had prepared the breakfast room of the hotel where it looked like a nice Mexican restarant; chef Manel Vasqez visited with anyone with qestions as they came thr the bffet line. He had even prepared fancy deserts complete with great presentation, as yo can see from the photos. Following the dinner, we presented the Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) Awards; where we had more than one man or woman in the grop. Novice: Fred Proctor (CTV) Grop 1S: Bonnie Goodson (OCCC) & Jim Hollinsworth (NTV) Grop 1: Eileen Fox (TV) & Bob Schnieder (OCCC) Grop 2: Cindy Morrison (CTV) & Johnny Gann (OCCC) Grop 3/RP: Jeannie Start (OCCC) & Joe Reese (TCCC) Following the awards, Sylvia took over with the NKF Charity Raffle and Action. We had a great selection of items for the raffle and raised over $2100 not conting one remaining action item that will be actioned at the Nov. Meeting. Please see Sylvia s article for a breakdown of the NKF Charity part of this event. Aw a r d s Snday we started the day with laps on the Oval at 7:30am for anyone that wished to participate. The Driver s Meeting was held at 8am followed by a drive thr for the five new competitors of the day. We started the day s competition promptly at 9am and we wold have been finished noonish, if Chris Gann from OCCC hadn t slid broadside thr the timing lights at Bsted Timing Head the finish line; destroying the timing head and cable. This halted the event for abot thirty to forty-five mintes while we ronded p spare eqipment to get back p and rnning. The last car of atocross ten retrned to the garage arond 1:30 pm; which was still darn good for a day of for atocrosses at this track. The event was now over and the team worked diligently to teardown and repack all of the eqipment back in the clb trailer. We also fond time to wind down, relax and vist after wards before we all headed on home. I wold like to thank the following Fnctional Chairpersons: Ato & Safety Tech Robbie & Carla Schneider (stepping in for Pal Meyers de to illness) Clb Eqipment Hector Sandoval Corner Workers Karyn Fowler Coarse Setp & Teardown David Gill Friday Night Hospitality Phil & Barbara Higbee Oval Laps Rick Garabedian Pre-Staging Cathy Anthony Registration Donna Forsythe Rig Parking Jim Forsythe Satrday Night Dinner & Hospitality Phil & Barbara Higbee Staging Don Wells Starter Scott Wheeler Timing Candy Beck Timing Boards Glenda McMahan Timing Eqipment Donn Beck & Kevin Anthony TMS Liaison Rick Garabedian While they weren t fnctional chairpersons, I wold like to The Timing Facility thank Gary Hana and Gwynne Horton for loaning the clb their camper (and generator); which was tilized as the Timing Facility all weekend. They also donated some large drink containers which they kept filled with ice water and water containing electrolytes to help folks combat the heat. I wold like yo to also recognize all of the workers that helped at the event; most of which are not atocross competitors at all - which shows that Cowtown is comprised of a great grop of individals that will step p to do what it takes to make or clb sccessfl! Please see or website for fll coverage of this event! Again, Thank Yo all for yor hard work and efforts to make this event so sccessfl! Thanks Dog McMahan & David Gill Event Chair & Co-Chair 5

6 WEBMASTER September was a relatively qiet month for website maintainance since we held the only NCCC event for the month and or event was the 100%er event for the month as well. Since the September newsletter, we have added for new event webpages containing over several hndred images/photos providing event coverage of or TMS NCCC Event. The photos were contribted by Fred & Margaret Proctor, John Dick, Raley & Jo Anne Smith and orselves. Do yo have a desire to be Cowtown s 2011 Webmaster? If so, have someone nominate yo at the October or November Membership Meeting. This also goes for the rest of the offices that we are taking nominations for to fill the 2011 Officer & Board positions. We are a volnteer organization and we welcome yo to step p and pick yor passion; the clb needs good workers to keep it going strong. Yo can find the job descriptions and qalification reqirements on or website as well. As nominations are taken and accepted, those candidates will be placed on or website. If a nominee declines, their name remains on the web bt a D is placed by it so yo know who has declined a nomination; so that they don t get re-nominated. Candidates have the opportnity to provide their Bio which will also be linked off the website. Cowtown Lists: If yo change yor address, mailing address, yor Vettes, etc., please let membership know so that yor address can be pdated in the Membership Database along with the varios lists. They stated that visitors seem to enjoy being reminded of a slower and simpler place in their lifetime. It also serves as a history lesson for those of the yonger generation not fortnate enogh to have been a part of that slower era. Yo might ask I really enjoy crising in or Vette bt what is this Criser Program all abot? the answer is that it is jst another form of competition; for those that like to crise in their Vette. The crising can be done individally, in small grops or the focs crises like the ones mentioned above. Some folks captre criser points while crising to NCCC Competition events, ot of town car shows, clb socials and then when they take short trips with their significant other. If yo are gathering points for this year s competition and yo don t have the electronic log tracker (Excel spreadsheet), contact me and I will send it to yo. There is still plenty of time to be an active crise participant for 2010; there is still enogh time to earn a bronze, silver or gold level participation award. When a sponsored crise is booked, it will be placed on the 2010 crise schedle, yo can find them on or website at: The 6th Annal Criser Photo Contest is coming to an end however, there is still time for yo to captre photos from neat places yor Vette took yo in To compete in this contest, yo don t even have to participate in the Criser Program.
