IRS-8B Cap. 5 - Operation as Two-Way Peripheral 5 - Operation as Two-Way Peripheral This is the typ i cal use of the pe riph eral, which is de signed to per form the fol low ing main func tions: - Trans mit the new state of the in put chan nels in the event of the vari a - tion of one or more phys i cal chan nels (ter mi nals) or vir tual chan nels (e.g. re cep tion of an antitheft ra dio con trol), or due to vari a tions of an in ter nal con trol (e.g. no mains power); - Re spond to a query from the Op er a tional Con trol Sta tion in or der to pro vide the state of the in put chan nels or the out puts; - Ac ti vate the out puts based on the com mands sent by the Op er a tional Con trol Sta tion. Start ing from the fac tory con fig u ra tion (de fault), the ba sic pa ram e ters to pro gram to op er ate from the two-way pe riph eral are the following: - Main trans mis sion and re cep tion fre quen cies - Com mu ni ca tion pro to col - Net work code (if used, ac cord ing to the pro to col) - Bridge Open ing Time (T.A.P.) - Num ber of call tries - In puts op er at ing mode - Out puts op er at ing mode. In puts Each in put ter mi nal can be used to con nect to sen sors, switches, earthed open col lec tor out puts or other de vices to be mon i tored. A spe cial 100KΩ Pull-Up resistor brings the +3.3V volt age to the in put. Mode In NC mode, the OFF or Nor mal state is when the ter mi nal is earthed (GND) while the ON or alarm state iden ti fies when the ter mi nal is open (+3.3V). Vice versa, in NO mode (N.A.), the OFF state in di cates that the ter mi nal is open while the ON state in di cates the earthed terminal. In bal anced mode, the OFF state oc curs when the ter mi nal "sees" a re sis tance of 47KΩ. Al ter ing this value gives the ON state (less than 39KΩ or greater than 56KΩ). Pag. 10

Cap. 5 - Operation as Two-Way Peripheral IRS-8B Type of In put This set ting de ter mines which type of vari a tion must gen er ate a ra dio trans mis sion: Ge neric ON/OFF vari a tion: ra dio trans mis sion oc curs for both vari a - tions, i.e. both when the in put changes from OFF to ON and vice versa. Ge neric ON vari a tion: ra dio trans mis sion only takes place when the in put changes from OFF to ON. Ge neric OFF vari a tion: ra dio trans mis sion only takes place when the in put changes from ON to OFF. MVS Open/Close: this mode is only ap pli ca ble if the MVS high speed Sicep pro to col is used. Ra dio trans mis sion takes place for both ver - sions and the mes sages trans mit ted are Open when the in put changes from OFF to ON, and Close when the in put changes from ON to OFF. In the other pro to cols, the ter mi nal be haves in Ge neric ON/OFF vari a tion mode. Op er a tion Each in put can be pro grammed in three op er at ing modes. Ac tive means that any vari a tion of the state (ac cord ing to the type of in put) gen er ates a ra dio trans mis sion from the de vice to no tify the Op er a tional Control Station of the new state. Pas sive means that no re ports are gen er ated, but in the event of an in put query, the cur rent state will be re turned. Dis abled means that no re ports are gen er ated and the state re sult ing from a query will always be Normal (OFF). De lay This pa ram e ter al lows im mu nity from false alarms to be in creased: the vari a tion of the in put is only con sid ered valid if the in put re mains in the new state with out in ter rup tions for a set pe riod of time (from 100 ms to 5 seconds). Re mote Con trol Out puts 8 earthed open col lec tor out puts are pres ent, and can be used to ac ti vate LEDs, re lays or other de vices in situ which are pow ered by di rect cur rent. The max i mum cur rent avail able is 100mA. CAUTION: if the out put is used to com mand a re lay or an other in - duc tive load, it is ad vis able to pro tect it with a di ode (e.g. 1N4007) as shown in the di a gram on page 42. Pag. 11

IRS-8B Cap. 5 - Operation as Two-Way Peripheral In the OFF state (out put de ac ti vated), the tran sis tor is not com manded, there fore the ter mi nal is open to earth (GND). In the ON state, the tran sis tor is ac ti vated and the ter mi nal is earthed. Type of Out put Each out put can be pro grammed to op er ate in three modes: Static: once the out put has been ac ti vated, it re mains in this state un til it is de ac ti vated. Pulsed: once the out put has been ac ti vated, it is au to mat i cally de ac ti - vated at the end of the pro grammed time. Re versed This set ting al lows the user to re verse the ON and OFF states in or der to ob tain re verse op er a tion: OFF state = out put ac ti vated (ter mi nal earthed) ON state = out put de ac ti vated (ter mi nal open). In ter nal Con trols The IRS-8B de vice has spe cial con trols to mon i tor the state of the de vice on a con tin u ous basis: - Tam per - Low bat tery - Mains pres ence - Ac tual bat tery ca pac ity - Mea sure ment of the sig nal re ceived - An tenna cut - Tem per a ture con trol Tam per The state of the microswitch is con trolled to re port the open ing of the con tain Ac cord ing to the pro to col used, the fol low ing cases may arise: - if us ing the high speed MVS pro to col, Tam per al ready has an as so ci - ated chan nel; - if us ing the low speed Sicep pro to col or one of the com pat i ble ones, it is nec es sary to as so ci ate the Con tainer Tam per event with a chan nel from 1 to 6 (Sicep) or from 1 to 8 (com pat i ble). Pag. 12

Cap. 5 - Operation as Two-Way Peripheral IRS-8B Mains pres ence The pres ence of 230 VAC mains volt age is checked us ing a spe cial out put on the power unit. When mains power is pres ent, the green PR LED is on. Ac cord ing to the pro to col used, the fol low ing cases may arise: - if us ing the high speed MVS pro to col or a com pat i ble pro to col, the mains al ready has an as so ci ated channel; - if us ing the low speed Sicep pro to col, it is nec es sary to as so ci ate the No Mains event with a chan nel from 1 to 6. Bat tery (Con tin u ous Test) The mi cro pro ces sor mea sures the power volt age con tin u ously. If the power unit is out of or der, when the volt age drops be low 10.5V, the bat tery is con sid ered flat. The red BATT LED co mes on. When the volt age re turns to 12.5V, re ac ti va tion oc curs. Ac cord ing to the pro to col used, the following cases may arise: - if us ing the high speed MVS pro to col or a com pat i ble pro to col, the bat - tery al ready has an as so ci ated channel; - if us ing the low speed Sicep pro to col, it is nec es sary to as so ci ate the Bat tery event with a chan nel from 1 to 6. WARNING Caution! If the bat tery is miss ing or re sults as be ing flat from the pe ri odic test, re ac ti va tion de pends on the latter. Ac tual bat tery ca pac ity (Pe ri odic Test) The pe riph eral per forms a pe ri odic test, con nect ing an ap pro pri ate load on the bat tery. If the bat tery is miss ing or its ca pac ity in suf fi cient, the low battery re port is trans mit ted (if as so ci ated with a chan nel). In this con di tion, re ac ti va tion can only take place if the bat tery re sults as be ing in good con di tion at the next test. The test is per formed at a fre quency which can be pro grammed at be tween 1 and 30 days. The test can be interrupted or postponed if: - Mains power is miss ing. The test is post poned by 1 hour; - The pe riph eral must per form trans mis sions. The test is post poned by 5 min utes; - The tem per a ture of the de vice ex ceeds 75 C. The test is sus pended and re sumes when the tem per a ture has dropped be low 55 C. WARNING Caution! To re place the bat tery, con sult the In stal la tion chap ter on page 42. Pag. 13

IRS-8B Cap. 5 - Operation as Two-Way Peripheral Mea sure ment of the sig nal re ceived Ev ery time that the pe riph eral re ceives a ra dio com mu ni ca tion ad dressed to it (query or out put ac ti va tion), it mea sures the in ten sity of the field re ceived. The con ven tional value de ter mined in this way (from 0 to 100) can be read by keep ing the PR-G1 ter mi nal con nected to the pe riph eral, or by en ter ing MVC pro gram ming (see page 66) If us ing the high speed MVS pro to col, it is pos si ble to trans mit the value re ceived to the Op er a tional Control Station. WARNING CAUTION: It is only pos si ble to trans mit the value to the Op er a tional Con - trol Sta tion us ing an SD-MPR con cen tra tor. An tenna cut The IRS-8B de vice has a tri ple An tenna Cut con trol: An tenna Re sis tance, Con fir ma tion Con trol, Re cep tion Control. In all cases, the An tenna Cut event causes the ac ti va tion of an out put or sends a trans mis sion on the tele phone line with MVS/ID pro to col (with op tional card). An tenna Re sis tance This con trol can only be used with "re-closed to earth" an ten nas. This type of an tenna re sults as be ing in short cir cuit for con tin u ous cur rent, so that by cut ting the sty lus or un screw ing the an tenna from the pe riph eral, the alarm is gen er ated automatically. Con fir ma tion Con trol The pe riph eral checks that each trans mis sion is fol lowed by con fir ma tion from the Op er a tional Control Station (or from the REP it tran sits on). If the re sult is neg a tive, at the end of the rep e ti tions, the an tenna is considered cut. Re cep tion Con trol This con trol is par tic u larly ef fi cient for a very crowded ra dio chan nel and is based on the as sump tion that the pe riph eral must re ceive a com mu ni ca tion be tween the Op er a tional Control Station and any pe riph eral (with pro grammed pro to col) within a set time limit. As a con se quence, each time the pe riph eral re ceives a trans mis sion, the coun ter is cleared and the count be gins again. If the time ex pires, the be hav iour dif fers ac cord ing to the pro to col used. In the case of the high speed MVS pro to col, the pe riph eral makes a test Pag. 14

Cap. 5 - Operation as Two-Way Peripheral IRS-8B trans mis sion to the Op er a tional Control Station. If the Control Station con firms, tim ing is cleared, oth er wise the an tenna is considered cut. For all the other low speed pro to cols (Sicep, Com pat i ble), it is not pos si ble to make a test trans mis sion to the Op er a tional Control Station, there fore when the time ex pires, the an tenna will be con sid ered cut. Tem per a ture con trol This con trol safe guards the fi nal trans mit ter stage. Each time that the pe riph eral has to trans mit, the tem per a ture of the ter mi nal is con trolled. If this is be tween 80 and 100 C, the power is re duced by 1 step (e.g. if 10W is set, it is re duced to 5W). If the tem per a ture is higher than 100 C, the power level is re duced to 1W. Cross ing an an a logue re peater bridge (Bridge in Tele phone mode) The IRS-8B pe riph eral is able to cross an a logue bridges in Tele phone mode. To cross, it is nec es sary to un der stand the modes with which the bridge is ac ti vated. An Au dio Sub-tone (fre quency be tween 67 and 250 Hz) or a Tran sponder Tone (fre quency be tween 1000 and 3000 Hz) must nor mally be programmed. The Sub-tone, when used, is on top of the whole mes sage while the Tran sponder Tone is only pres ent at the start of the mes sage (be fore the syn chro nism note) and it is pos si ble to pro gram its du ra tion. En sure that the ra dio fre quen cies are pro grammed cor rectly. 25 Cap. 7 - Operation as REP for the MVS High Speed protocol IRS-8B 7 - Operation as REP for the MVS High Speed protocol The IRS-8B pe riph eral can op er ate as a dig i tal REP for all Sicep one-way or two-way pe riph er als which use this pro to col, i.e. UP-R8, UP-R2, UP-RM, UC-B82, UC-M82, MPR-8B, MPR-8M, MPR-CB, MPR-CM, IRS-8B, IRS-8M, IRS-CB, IRS-CM. Two rep e ti tion/net work man age ment modes are pos si ble: Stan dard and SRN (Smart Re peater Net work). Stan dard Method In this mode, the pe riph eral to re peat is pro grammed to cross up to 3 REPs ac cord ing to a fixed pat h. The method is sim ple but less op ti mised as re gards the use of the ra dio chan nel. It is the only method of rep e ti tion pos si ble for one-way peripherals. All the codes for the REPs to cross must be pro grammed on the pe - riph eral to re peat, in the right or der. In the Op er a tional Con trol Sta tion, if the pe riph eral is two-way, the Ra - dio path with the REP codes to cross must be as signed in or der to query/ac ti vate the out puts on the equip ment form. 26 IRS-8B Cap. 7 - Operation as REP for the MVS High Speed protocol SRN Method In this mode, the pe riph eral to re peat (two-way only) can cross up to 3 REPs for a to tal of 4 jumps ac cord ing to a pat tern which can range from fixed to com pletely self-man aged. In par tic u lar, there are 3 modes: SRN with all REPs fixed In the event of an alarm, the pe riph eral will at tempt send ing via REP num ber one. If there is no re sponse, once the set num ber of at tempts have been made, it will move on to the sec ond one and so on. To send sub se quent alarms, the pe riph eral will al ways re peat this procedure. SRN with 1 Fixed REP (pri or ity) and 3 Auto-Learn ing REPs In this mode, REPs 2, 3 and 4 are not pro grammed by the in staller but are cho sen au to mat i cally by the pe riph eral. In the nor mal lis ten ing phase, the lat ter re cog nises the ac tive REPs and as signs each of them a score ac cord ing to the in ten sity of the sig nal re ceived. In this mode, the REPs are or dered by de creas ing in ten sity. To trans mit an alarm, the pe riph eral will first at tempt send ing via REP num ber one, the fixed one. If there is no re sponse, once the set num ber of at tempts have been made, it will move on to the sec ond one and so on. To send sub se quent alarms, the pe riph eral will al ways re peat this pro ce dure. The list of avail able REPs, with the ex cep tion of the first one which is fixed, is up dated to the last re port trans mit ted by each REP re ceived: if a REP is no longer available, it is deleted from the list. SRN with all Auto-Learn ing REPs This mode is sim i lar to the pre vi ous one, with the dif fer ence that all the REPs are cho sen by the pe riph eral. For this rea son, once in stalled, be fore send ing a test alarm, it is nec es sary to query the avail able REPs in or der for the pe riph eral to memo rise them and choose which one to trans mit on ac cord ing to the signals received. When the SRN method is used, it is nec es sary to pro gram the fol low ing on the pe riph eral: Type of SRN MVS net work Pag. 22

Cap. 8 - SRN repeater network IRS-8B The ad van tages of this method are set out be low: - Each pe riph eral can have up to 4 REPs (1 pri or ity + 4 al ter na tives) avail able to send the alarm. - Each sub se quent jump to the Con trol Sta tion is fully man aged by the REP which is re peat ing, which in turn may have al ter ative REPs it self. - In the Operational Control Station, on the peripheral card, IT IS NOT NECESSARY to assign the path with the REP codes, because the Operational Control Station registers the path of the last alarm received and automatically routes the query through this. - The trans mis sion of the rep e ti tion of a REP acts as con fir ma tion for the de vice which is re peated by the REP and the Op er a tional Con trol Sta - tion only con firms re ceiv ing the sec tor 0 REP. This leads to a con sid er able re duc tion in transmissions. TRADITIONAL SRN 1 REP 4 Messages 3 Messages 2 REP 6 Messages 4 Messages 3 REP 8 Messages 5 Messages - An other ad van tage is the fact that the SRN net work also sup ports the traf fic of pe riph er als which use the stan dard method. 30 IRS-8B Cap. 9 - Using Pocket Devices 9 - Using Pocket Devices Pocket de vices are por ta ble one-way de vices which make use of a pe riph eral (in this case the IRS-8B, but also MPR-8B or UP-R8) to send alarm re ports or ac ti vate sup port pe riph eral out puts. These de vices are: TP-M8, TP-M4, RadioPocket. Com pared with pe riph er als of pre vi ous gen er a tions, in the IRS-8B pe riph eral, this use has been ex tended in or der to be able to use sev eral Pocket codes on the same pe riph eral (up to 4) and make it pos si ble to ac ti vate out puts on pro to cols which orig i nally did not al low this. Use dif fers ac cord ing to the pro to col chosen on the Pocket device. MVS Pocket Pro to col This pro to col can only be used on sup port pe riph er als con fig ured with the high speed MVS Sicep pro to col. It is pos si ble to re trans mit the alarm as well as ac ti vate the out puts. The pro to col makes use of the so-called vir tual chan nels on the pe riph eral which, on the IRS-8B de vice, go from 33 to 124. These chan nels do not cor re spond to con nec tion ter mi nals. The ter mi nals, in fact, iden tify the first 32 chan nels of the pe riph eral, thus also in clud ing the two pos si ble ex pan sions. Us ing the GROUPS mech a nism, the pe riph eral can re peat up to 21 Pocket de vices sep a rately: each must be iden ti fied by a GROUP (from 0 to 20) with 4 cor re spond ing channels as shown in the chart below. It is pos si ble to re trans mit the alarm as well as ac ti vate the out puts. When re peat ing an alarm, the chan nel as signed to the pe riph eral moves to the alarm state and re mains in this state for 60 sec onds from the last trans mis sion re ceived from the Pocket de vice. It does not trans mit re store. When ac ti vat ing out puts, the out put to ac ti vate must be pro grammed as Pulsed and is ac ti vated once only for the pro grammed time. Sub se quent Pocket device repetitions are filtered. Low Speed One-Way Sicep Pro to col This pro to col makes the Pocket de vice an ac tual one-way de vice, which can make use of the IRS-8B sup port pe riph eral with a low speed Sicep pro to col as REP. To use it, sim ply pro gram at least one one-way rep e ti tion sec tor on the IRS-8B pe riph eral and ac ti vate the REP function. WARNING Caution!
