7 2 ABOUT THE PGA OF AUSTRALIA Few sporting organisations can boast a proud 100 year heritage like the PGA of Australia. Our Association traces its origins back to 1911 when a group of expatriate Scottish golf Professionals formed a national association to both promote the game of golf and elevate the vocation of the golf Professional within Australia. The PGA of Australia is the third oldest Professional Golfers Association and proudly forms part of the PGA World Alliance, of which we are a founding partner. To find out more about the history of the PGA of Australia please visit In 2007 the PGA Tour of Australasia and the PGA of Australia amalgamated its two professional golf entities. Now together, the PGA of Australia provides a unified approach to professional golf in this country and region. Today, the PGA Tour of Australasia is the peak principle sanctioning body for professional golf tournaments in Australia. It is dedicated to the promotion, growth and development of the game of golf at all levels through its tournaments. As all of its tournaments carry Official World Golf Ranking points, as an acknowledgement of this, the Tour is recognised domestically and internationally for delivering high-quality events and tournaments that take place on many of the great courses and golf clubs of Australia. We greatly appreciate the role that the golf industry plays and all clubs support in their contribution to this area of Tournaments. The PGA of Australia is a not-for-profit membership organisation that represents over 2,600 vocational and tournament PGA Professionals living and working in Australia and overseas. The vast majority of the PGA of Australia s current total Membership works in a vocational capacity primarily at local or overseas golf facilities teaching, administering, managing, leading and promoting the game of golf. Together, vocational PGA Members play a significant role in servicing in excess of 1.2million Australians of all ages, abilities and social backgrounds who take to the fairways each year. Again, we thank the industry for the support it provides by engaging the services of PGA of Australia Members. The PGA of Australia through its education arm operates two Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) PGA Academy and PGA IGI. The Academy delivers the PGA Trainee Program and the PGA International Golf Institute (PGA IGI) delivers industry recognised further education for both its PGA Members and those in the industry - or aspiring to be.
