As the date of the conference is approaching, we would like to provide you with more details about the conference as well as with some practical information relevant to your stay in Prague. The conference will take place in the main building of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague, Národní třída 3 (for directions see the enclosed Conference Information) and, as already indicated, will be hosted by the Czech Institute of Egyptology. The programme of the conference as well as other relevant information is available at: In order to help you get around Prague with ease and make your stay more enjoyable, we are enclosing an information material consisting of a map of Prague 1 (the downtown), Conference Information, which contains the address of the Czech Institute of Egyptology, address of the venue of the conference, and directions to Celetná 20 (Czech Institute of Egyptology) and Národní třída 3 (Czech Academy of Sciences). Included is also a general overview of the transport in Prague, important addresses and telephone numbers, and a list of restaurants and other establishments.

The Charles University Hotel is located in the same complex of university buildings. The nearest metro stops are Můstek on the green (A) metro line and Náměstí republiky on the yellow (B) metro line. The building of the Czech Academy of Sciences, i.e. the venue of the conference, is situated in the very centre of Prague opposite the National Theatre on Národní třída. The nearest metro stations are Národní třída on the yellow (B) metro line and Staroměstská on the green (A) metro line. A tram stop is located just in front of the entrance to the building and is frequented by trams Nos. 6, 9, 18, 21, 22, and 23. Tram No. 17 stops at the Národní divadlo tram stop on the main road between the Vltava River and the National Theatre. The Legie Hotel is to be found in the centre of Prague, at a convenient location in the vicinity of the I. P. Pavlova metro station on the red (C) metro line and the I. P. Pavlova tram stop, which is frequented by trams Nos. 6, 10, 16, 22, 23.

4 From the Ruzyně Airport Public transport A. Get on the bus No. 119 (the bus stop is situated across the road from the Arrivals hall follow the sign) and go to Dejvická bus stop (terminal) outside Dejvická metro station. Take the green (A) metro line to Staroměstská metro station (3 stops) to get to the Czech Academy of Sciences, or to Můstek metro station (4 stops) to get to the Czech Institute of Egyptology, the Hotel of the Charles University, or the Czech Academy of Sciences. As there are two exits at the Můstek metro station, remember to follow the sign for Můstek. If you need to get to the Legie Hotel in Prague 2, go to Muzeum metro station (5 stops), change to the red (C) metro line and go to I. P. Pavlova metro station (direction of Háje, 1 stop The bus from the airport runs every 20 minutes. The whole journey takes about 40 or 45 minutes. Ticket: 20 CZK. B. Get on the bus No. 100 and go to Zličín bus station outside Zličín metro station. Take the yellow (B) metro line to Národní třída metro station (11 stops) to get to the Czech Academy of Sciences, or to Náměstí republiky metro station (13 stops) to get to the Czech Institute of Egyptology and the Hotel of the Charles University. As there are two exits at the Náměstí republiky metro station, remember to follow the sign for Náměstí republiky. If you need to get to the Legie Hotel in Prague 2, go to Florenc metro station (14 stops), change to the red (C) metro line and go to I. P. Pavlova metro station (direction of Háje, 3 stops). The bus from the airport runs every 30 minutes. The whole journey takes about 50 to 55 minutes. Ticket: 20 CZK. Minibus You can take a minibus to Náměstí republiky (the drop-off place is indicated at it is about three-minute walk from the seat of the Czech Institute of Egyptology in Celetná 20). The price for 1 person is 120 CZK. You can also take the minibus to any other place in the centre of Prague; the price for 1 4 persons (all to be

5 dropped off at the same place) is 480 CZK, the price for 5 8 persons (all to be dropped off at the same place) is 960 CZK. Taxi The AAA taxi rank is just in front of the Arrivals hall. The journey to the centre of Prague with an AAA taxi should not exceed 600 CZK. You can also check other possibilities of transportation from or to the airport at: From the Main Train Station (Hlavní nádraží) Metro A. Get on the red (C) metro line in the direction of Háje terminal. Go to I. P. Pavlova metro station to get to the Legie Hotel. Go to Museum metro station (1 stop) and change for the green (A) line to travel to Můstek metro station (direction of Dejvická, 1 stop) to get to the Czech Institute of Egyptology, the Hotel of the Charles University, or the Czech Academy of Sciences. As there are two exits at the Můstek metro station, remember to follow the sign for Můstek. The whole journey takes about 15 minutes. Ticket: 20 CZK. B. Get on the red (C) metro line in the direction of Holešovice terminal. Go to Florenc metro station (1 stop) and change for the yellow (B) line. Go to Náměstí republiky metro station (direction of Zličín, 1 stop). As there are two exits, remember to follow the one for Náměstí republiky. The whole journey takes about 15 minutes. Ticket: 20 CZK. From the Holešovice Train Station Metro A. Get on the red (C) metro line in the direction of Háje terminal. If you need to get to the Legie Hotel in Prague 2, go to I. P. Pavlova metro station (5 stops). Go to Museum metro station (4 stops) and change for the green (A) line to go to Můstek metro station (direction of

Directions to the Czech Institute of Egyptology and to the Hotel of the Charles University The Czech Institute of Egyptology has its seat and offices in Celetná 20 in the building of the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University in Prague. The Charles University Hotel is located at Celetná 14 and is accessible from the courtyard of the Faculty of Arts complex of buildings. From Náměstí republiky Metro Station Get to the upper level of the underground system at Náměstí republiky and follow the sign for Příkopy Hybernská ulice V Celnici to exit the underground. Cross the road and walk past the Municipal House (Obecní dům). Turn right, walk underneath the Powder Tower and take the left street (Celetná). The building of the Faculty of Arts (No. 20) is half way down the street on your left. The offices of the Czech Institute of Egyptology are on the 4 th floor of the building. To get to the Charles University Hotel, walk across the hall on the ground floor of the building of the Faculty of Arts, walk through the glass door to get to the courtyard and turn to the right. The entrance to the hotel is behind the chestnut tree. From Můstek Metro Station Get to the upper level of the underground system at Můstek and follow the sign for Na Příkopě Stavovské divadlo Obecní dům to exit the underground. Turn left and walk down Na Příkopě

7 street. Turn left at the Diva accessories store and El Gaucho Steakhouse restaurant and walk down Havířská street. Turn right to get to Ovocný trh. Walk down this wide street to the furthest end and turn left to Celetná street. Celetná No. 20 is further down the road on your left. Also, you can turn right at the end of Havířská street, walk around the Estates Theatre, behind which is located another entrance way into the Charles University complex of buildings. To get to the Charles University hotel, you need to get to the courtyard of the complex of buildings (follow the instructions given above), to get to the Czech Institute of Egyptology, you need to cross the courtyard to get to the Celetná side of the complex. Directions to the Hotel Legie, Sokolská 33, Prague 2 The Hotel Legie is located in the vicinity of I. P. Pavlova metro station and tram stop. The metro station is part of the red (C) metro line, the tram stop is frequented by trams Nos. 6, 10, 16, 22, and 23. Once you exit the metro system or get off the tram, walk across the I. P. Pavlova square (i.e. down ), the hotel is at the bottom of the square on the let corner (when looking at it from the metro station or tram stop). Directions to the Czech Academy of Sciences at Národní třída 3 (see the enclosed map) From Celetná 14 and 20 Walk down Celetná street in the direction of Powder Tower, turn to the right at the House of the Black Madonna and walk down Ovocný trh square, past the Estates Theatre, and continue straight on, down Rytířská street (you can also get out from the Faculty of Arts complex of buildings using the entrance in front of the Estates Theatre on Ovocný trh). Turn to the left at the Exchange office, and walk down Na Můstku street. At the bottom of the Wenceslas Square turn to the right and walk down 28. října street that leads into Národní street. Walk down Národní třída street, the building of the Czech Academy of Sciences is on the right. The walk takes about 20 minutes. If you prefer taking a tram, walk from Celetná through the Old Town Square and down Kaprova street. You will get to Staroměstská tram stop by the main Faculty of Arts building (by the Vltava River) from where you can take the tram No. 17 or 18 to Národní divadlo tram stop (2 stops from Staroměstská).

8 From Hotel Legie on Sokolská 33, Prague 2 Walk to I. P. Pavlova tram stop and get on a tram No. 6, 22, or 23 in the direction downtown. Get off at Národní divadlo tram stop (4 stops). From various locations in Prague The tram stop in front of the building of the Czech Academy of Sciences at Národní třída 3 is frequented by trams Nos. 6, 9, 18, 21, 22, and 23. The tram No. 17 stops at Národní Divadlo tram stop which is by the National Theatre on the street parallel to the Vltava River. You can get on the mentioned trams from all possible places in the city. Metro If you prefer to use the metro, the metro stops situated closest to the venue of the conference are Národní třída on the yellow (B) metro line and Staroměstská on the green (A) metro line. When using the yellow (B) metro line, exit the metro system, walk past the Tesco department store, which is situated on the corner of Spálená and Národní třída streets. Turn to the left and walk down Národní třída street. The building of the Czech Academy of Sciences is on the right side of the street, approximately opposite to the National Theatre. Or, once you exit the metro system at Národní třída metro station, you can take any of the above-mentioned trams and get off at Národní divadlo tram stop (one stop). When using the green (A) metro line, exit the metro system and walk in the direction of the Vltava River, turn right and walk down the street as far as the National Theatre. Turn left in front of the National Theatre to get to Národní třída, the building of the Czech Academy of Sciences is on the left side of the street. The walk will take about 10 minutes. Or, once you exit the metro system at Staroměstská, you can take a tram No. 17 or 18 and get off at the second stop (Národní divadlo). take the yellow B metro line and get off at Národní třída metro station.

9 General Visitor Information Transport in Prague Public Transport Travelling by city transport is only possible with a valid ticket, which has to be obtained before boarding the vehicle or entering the metro system. The ticket is valid only if marked in the validation appliance. Tickets can be bought at most metro stations (look for the yellow slot machines) or in Dopravni podnik Information Centres, at hotels, news stands, tobacconists, travel bureaus, department stores, etc. Transfer ticket 20 CZK. Tickets for three fare zones can be used 75 minutes from validation. On working days from 8.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays round the clock such tickets can be used 90 minutes from validation. Non-transfer ticket 14 CZK. Tickets apply to trams and buses 20 minutes allowing no change. On the metro such tickets are valid for the distance of 5 stations from the station of validation (not including the station of validation) allowing to change between the lines A, B, C, but no longer than 30 minutes. These tickets do not apply to night routes and funicular railway. Luggage 10 CZK (if the dimensions exceed 25x45x70 cm). 24-hour ticket 80 CZK 3-day ticket 220 CZK 7-day ticket 280 CZK The metro system operates every day between 5 a.m. and midnight. The frequency of trains is about 3 4 minutes during peak hours. You should allow for more time when travelling at night or in the early morning hours. Most trams and buses operate every day between 4.30 a.m. and midnight. The frequency of trams during the day is 3 15 minutes and the frequency of buses during the day is 6 20 minutes, depending on the time of the day. The period between midnight and 4.30 a.m. is covered by the operation of night trams and buses. The frequency of trams and buses at night is minutes. Taxi Service The maximum price for the taxi service in the district of Prague is: starting rate 40 CZK

10 1 kilometre one-way in the capital city of Prague 28 CZK/1 km waiting rate 6 CZK/1 min. Always check that the registration number, company name and the price list including the basic rate, kilometre rate and one-minute-waiting rate are displayed on both front doors of the cab.
