4 DESCRIBE THE REQUESTED COURSE/PROGRAM ACTION (additional pages may be attached if necessary): Current Minor Requirements (15 credits): casc 310, Fundamentals of Computer Networks casc 312, Administering and Supporting a Network aperating System casc 401, The TCP/IP Protocol Suite case 432, Information Assurance easc 433, Network Security New Minor Requirements (18 credits): case 210, Computer Hardware/Software Support (New requirement, pre-requisite to casc 310) casc 310, Fundamentals of Computer Networks (Currently required) casc 332, Fundamental of Computer Security (New requirement, pre-requisite to casc 432 and casc 433) casc 430, Legal Issues in High Technology Crime (New requirement) Choose two from the following list: casc 312, Administering and Supporting a Network aperating System (Currently required, will become an elective) casc 401, The TCP/IP Protocol Suite (Currently required, will become an elective) casc 432, Information Assurance (Currently required, will become an elective) casc 433, Network Security (Currently required, will become an elective) casc 435, Digital Forensics (New elective) The description of the minor, to be published in the UB Catalog and on the website is reported in the attached file, titled "UB Catalog Description for the AIT Minor". SET FORTH THE RATIONALE FOR THIS PROPOSAL: The changes are dictated by three rationales: 1) Some courses now have added pre-requisites, in light of the changes of the AIT program to a 4-year program. These changes implicitly added two more courses to the required 5: - cas 210, that is required as pre-requisite to casc casc 332, that is required as pre-requisite to casc 432 and casc 433 This pushes the current course requirements to 7 courses, or 21 credits. In order to resolve this problem, we have required all the courses that function as pre-requisites as part of the four courses that all students who wish to complete this minor will have to complete. 2) The students should have some flexibility in choosing to concentrate on the topics that are most appropriate to their needs. This is done by letting them choose two courses in areas of networking, system administration, security, or forensics from the list of possible elective courses (CaSC 312, casc 401, casc 432, casc 433, or casc 435). 3) The fact that students can take any two courses from that list will reduce the amount of potential scheduling conflicts with other courses within their major, giving them flexibility to participate in courses for both their major and minor. Summer
5 US Catalog Description for the AIT Minor Attachment 1 SECURITY AND NETWORK ADMINISTRATION, MINOR Giovanni Vincenti, faculty contact Information Technology is the application of computing and communication technologies in industry, government l business and entertainment. In the 21st century, organizations rely heavily on those who can use IT application software competently and professionally. Actual certification would require successful completion of the certification examinations. COURSE CODE Computer Science (COSC). Description and prerequisites for individual courses are detailed in the Course Descriptions section of this catalog. MINOR REQUIREMENTS See the Requirements for Completion of a Minor.
