4 Parish News Teaching Liturgy - November 17th On Sunday, November 17th, we will have our first teaching Liturgy for the year. Most of the Liturgy will be conducted in the English Language. We invite everyone to participate Roof Fundraiser Living in New England, the weather is not kind to buildings and our Church is no exception. Our current roof has serious issues that are allowing water into the church. The Parish Council recognized this over a year ago and has spent the time to investigate the options of repairing the existing roof or replacing it. In that regard we have established a Roof Fundraising campaign to raise $50,000. Our goal is to raise these funds over the next two months so the work can be finished during the early summer before our Festival in August. Your generous donation will help cover the cost of replacing the roof in order to preserve our church. With the support of our parishioners, as well as the benevolence of community businesses and individuals we have raised so far over $35, We would like to thank you for your unlimited love and support that you have shown for our church, and would kindly ask for your support so that we can overcome this obstacle. If you have questions, concerns, or just want more details about this important fundraising effort, please contact us at (603) New Year s Eve Celebration - December 31st Please come and join us on New Year s Eve to celebrate, together as a family, the upcoming year and the passing of the current one. The New Year s Eve Celebration, will be held on December 31st, 2013 from 7pm till 1am at the Assumption Church Hall. For more information look for the flyer on page 11. We hope you can join us Philoptochos News November meeting of Philoptochos Board will be on November 12th at 6:00pm in the church hall. Upcoming Events - Save the Date For members who are paid through 2013, we will be having our annual Philoptochos Christmas Party on December 15. Details regarding our gathering will follow in a letter. Coffee Hours Please contact a Philoptochos Board member or the church office if you would like to sponsor a coffee hour. If you have a special date in mind, please reserve it early 4

5 Youth News Thanksgiving is right around the corner for all of us and we must remember to be thankful to God for all of our blessings every day Hebert Candy Bars will be the choice for our first fundraising event. Each case contains 52 bars. This fundraiser is a 50% profit for the Youth Ministry.Candy bars will be distributed to those that want to participate in the Youth Ministry fundraising event. We would love to have 100% participation by all children/families as we need to begin to build up our account for events that we have planned throughout the year. On Thursday, November 7th, we will posting our Nativity Event that is planned to be presented by the children in church on Sunday, December 22, This year we will work with the Goyans on actual speaking parts. The Goyans have committed to working with the children and to have early rehearsals. JOY/GOYA movie night Friday, November 15, 2013 at 6:30PM. Following the movie, the GOYANS will have a sleepover in the Youth Center. Saturday morning, we will go out for breakfast. Goyans are collecting coupons from the Sunday paper to participate in Extreme Couponing. An envelope has been placed in the Narthex and on the bulletin board in the Youth Center. Each week, the children are reviewing the Gospel Reading with their teachers. Please encourage them to discuss this at home. It is amazing how much they retain. On Sunday, November 17th, 2013, will be our Teaching Liturgy in church. We will keep all children in church on this day as Father Nenes describes the meaning of the Divine Liturgy. As always, we will take communion and return to our seats. Please remind the children that when in church, we are expected to be on our best behavior and to be respectful of all the parishioners. Greek School News We are off and running We want to welcome back our wonderful teachers, Mr. Kitsis, Mrs. Stamoulis & Ms. Daphne Galatas. The church has purchased two beautiful computers for our children to be able to participate in online learning and lessons in Greek. A huge thank you to the Parish Council for the new computers. Please discuss with your children the importance of staying on church property and being respectful of the property during the recess. As we get closer to darker hours during recess, we would like to have the children stay in the front of the Youth Center as it is lit. They also have the use of the youth center downstairs as it gets closer. No football, frisbie or soccer indoors. Also, if your children bring a snack to eat, please make sure they pick up after themselves. We continue to have to pick up wrappers and soda cans and crunched food on the rugs. Come serve and celebrate with us everyone that has participated has not gone home without truly feeling blessed to have touched so many lives. Ask anyone that has served, it is a very rewarding experience to help. I look for approximately 12 servers each Sunday we work. Lately, we have only had 4 & 5 servers. Help in November and you will be thankful for the experience even if it is to serve food or talk to a client. The clients are thankful for everything we do It is only two hours (4-6PM). We meet in the parking lot at New Horizons and enter through the side door. 10 Assumption Church Community Christmas Card Fundraiser 2013 As the Christmas Season quickly approaches, we are, once again, asking our parish community and friends of the Assumption Church to participate in our annual community Christmas Card. This year s donation remains at $15.00 per household. However, any amount you wish to contribute above this will be most welcomed. It s that time of year again to think about sending our Christmas and New Year s wishes to everyone. Our Christmas Card will be sent to more than 300 Assumption Church parish families and friends.
