1 BUSINESS MEETING AGENDA WESTERN COUNCIL OF BUSINESS SCHOOLS AND PROGRAMS Region 7 of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Minutes of Business Meeting Friday, October 24, 2014 Kwantlen Polytechnic University Richmond Campus, British Columbia 1. Welcome and Approval of Agenda a. Agenda for Conference 2. Approval of Minutes 1. Jeff Lineman moved to approved the agenda 2. Tracy Gillis seconded motion a. November 1, 2013 Meeting at Salt Lake Community College, Salt Lake City, Utah 1. Sam Dunn moved to approve 2. James Neblett seconded the motion b. June 27, 2014, Meeting at Chicago Marriott, Chicago, Illinois 1. Tracy Gillis moved to approve 2. Devin Daugherty second 3. Reports a. President s Report 1. Attendance: 70 pre- registered for this conference, largest number to date. We had 49 in October 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah, 40 in January 2013, in Boise Idaho, 60 in January 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona, and 56 in January 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada 2. We reached out to 25 schools in BC and Alberta who are not members to invite them to attend this conference. 20% responded back. 3. Four schools were interested but could not make it; two of those schools want to be on a mailing list

2 4. One of the schools is in attendance Welcome to Langara College! We will continue to mail out regular communications. Thanks to Kwantlen Polytechnic University students for help with setup b. Treasurer s Report 1. Report for the year ended June Expenses for the annual conference will be paid by the Western Council of Business Schools. The President shall review and approve all expenses related to the conference and present them to the Treasurer for payment. The hosting institution may request an administrative overhead fee of up to 15% of direct administrative costs (copies, supplies, postage, printing, rental fees) if they so desire. If an institution requests an amount exceeding this percentage or wants to include other types of costs beyond those specifically mentioned this should be done in writing, is subject to approval, and should be made within 60 days of agreeing to host the conference. Costs of alcoholic beverages shall not be reimbursed from region funds. Conference presenters are responsible for preparing all copies they may need for their presentations. 2. Lynnette Yerbury made a motion to increase the scholarship to Honor Societies from 250 to 500 dollars this year. Linda Whitten seconded the motion 3. Don Gren moved to provide both Delta Mu Delta and Kappa Beta Delta scholarships for 500 dollars for a total of 1,000 dollars for the year. Devin Daugherty seconded the motion c. Nominations and Elections 1. Election for Secretary- designate from a two year institution (3- year succession commitment: Secretary ; President- elect ; President ) 2. Becky Havens nominated Dan Bothe for Secretary 3. Kenneth Minesinger seconded the motion 4. Lynnette Yerbury nominated Lori Becker for Secretary 5. Seconded by Robin Hemmingsen 6. Voting occurred Lori Becker received a majority of the votes and will serve as Secretary for the year.

3 4. New Business a. Future Regional Conferences (future dates that do not conflict with the Christian Business Faculty Association) 1. Site for Fall 2015 Conference San Francisco, California hosted by Notre Dame de Namur University and Skyline College from October 21st- 23 rd Site for Fall 2016 Conference Discussion occurred. Teresa Gillespie made a motion to hold the 2016 conference at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California and to hold the 2017 conference at the University of the Rockies in Denver, Colorado. Motion seconded by Don Gren Majority in favor Motion carried b. National Committee Updates: i. Articulation Committee Devin Daugherty, Embry- Riddle (4- yr, Region 7, ) ii. Business/Industry Relations Committee Kevin Wilhelmsen, University of Phoenix (AZ) (4- yr, Region ) iii. Digital Media Communications Committee Jeff Lineman, Northwest Nazarene (ID) (4- yr, Region 7, ) came out of marketing committee as a second unit to enhance the visibility of the organization both internally and externally. Request for more people to be involved. At the national conference there will be a focus on using social media to provide tweets and a Twitter rating. Student mentors on Twitter and have them sit in on the regional meeting to assist with tweeting. Suggestion to use Linkedin as well since it caters to professionals. iv. Global Business Education Committee Sam Dunn, Northwest Nazarene University (ID) (4- yr, Region 7, ) v. Member Relations Committee Brenda Johnson, Northwest Nazarene (ID) (4- yr, Region 7, ) vi. Scholar- Practitioner Publications Committee - Dean Pielstick, Northern Arizona University (AZ) 4- yr, Region 7, ) vii. By- Laws Committee Tom Cary, City University (WA) (4- yr, Region 7, )

4 viii. Marketing Committee Freda Hartman, University of Phoenix (4- yr, Region 7, ) 1. Message is: brand ambassadors campaign is a way to raise awareness of how we can promote ACBSP and how we benefit business education 2. Request: marketing committee developed Discovering ACBSP is available in English and Spanish considering whether it would be valuable to provide a version of this document in a third language. ix. Strategic Planning Committee Ron Galloway, Northwest Nazarene University (ID) (4- yr, Region 7, ) 1. Ron Galloway is completing his term on the ACBSP Strategic Planning committee. Don Gren nominated Helen Vallee Lori Becker seconded c. Region 7 Committee Updates: i. Strategic Planning Committee (Helen Vallee) Prior to the next meeting in Philadelphia, we will have an update based on the Strategic Planning session that took place on Thursday at the conference ii. Teaching Excellence Award Committee (Chair, Alisa Fleming) 1. $500 scholarship in the name of each recipient (2yr and 4 yr.) is paid to their institutions iii. Fall 2015 Regional Conference Committee (Co- chairs, Linda Whitten and Craig Brewer)
