They are overview only. The volunteer attorneys cannot do the following: - Answer specific or detailed questions concerning unique individual circumstances, - Assist in completing specific individual forms, - Provide specific legal advice for individuals, - Provide individual representation. Low Income Taxpayer Clinic Sponsored by the University of Denver Graduate Tax Program LITC Location: University of Denver 2255 East Evans Ave. Suite 390 Denver, CO Contact: (303) Description: The University of Denver Graduate Tax Program Low Income Taxpayer Clinic represents low and moderate taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service in audit, appeals, and collection issues, and federal tax litigation. Representation is free or for a nominal charge. The clinic is completely independent of and not associated with the IRS. University of Denver Student Law Office University of Denver s Student Law Office (SLO) has six in house clinics, including: criminal defense, civil litigation, civil rights, community economic development, environmental, and mediation and arbitration. The SLO provides students an opportunity to learn and practice these skills under the supervision of experienced practicioners on clinic faculty. Criminal Defense Clinic Students enrolled in the Criminal Defense Clinic of the Student Law Office (SLO) represent low-income clients charged with misdemeanors and municipal ordinance violations including assault, disturbing the peace, and shoplifting. The Criminal Defense Clinic accepts cases from Denver and Jefferson Counties. If you have a current misdemeanor criminal charge pending in these areas, a student attorney from the Criminal Defense Clinic may be able to represent you. Please complete a Criminal Screening Form and submit here. NOTE: The completion of a Criminal Screening Form does not guarantee representation by the Student Law Office. Community Economic Development Clinic The Community Economic Development (CED) Clinic offers legal representation to nonprofit corporations, community-based associations and enterprises, and small businesses. Assistance may include drafting corporate formation documents; assisting nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt applications and maintenance of tax-exempt status; drafting and negotiating contracts and transactions related to economic development and redevelopment projects. 6 Civil Litigation Clinic Law students participating in the Civil Litigation Clinic help low-income clients work through civil controversies in these areas: housing discrimination and eviction defense, domestic violence, civil protection orders, and immigration / labor issues, including wage and hour litigation. Civil Rights Clinic Students represent clients in civil rights cases in federal court under the supervision of clinic faculty who are committed to resolving legal problems effectively and responsibly. Currently, the focus of the CRC is on the constitutionality of the conditions in which federal and state prisoners are held, including issues such as indefinite solitary confinement, freedom of expression, the free exercise of religion, and due process, although any kind of civil rights or civil liberties matter may be considered. Environmental Law Clinic Under the supervision of the Director of the Environmental Law Clinic, and an Environmental Law Clinic Fellow, students represent environmental advocacy organizations before courts and administrative agencies in a broad range of environmental matters, including endangered species, public lands, air quality and public health. The Environmental Law Clinic offers two tracks: The Colorado Urban Project (CUP) and The Federal Wildlife Project (FWP). Students who select the Colorado Urban Project Track work to address the emerging environmental issues along Colorado s urban Front Range. These students will utilize both federal and state laws to tackle these urban environmental issues, including the Federal Clean Water Act, Federal Clean Air Act, local land use planning and environmental justice policies. Students who select the Federal Wildlife Project track will work on the preservation of endangered species and their habitats throughout Colorado and the western United States. FWP students will utilize a variety of federal environmental statutes to promote the goals of their clients, including the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Administrative Procedure Act, and the National Forest Management Act. Feel free to contact us with any questions at Free Mediation Services for the Community Under the guidance of experienced faculty, students, working in teams of two, provide free mediation services to litigants in Denver County Small Claims Court. A wide variety of disputes may be mediated, including those involving landlord/tenant issues, neighbor relations, home repairs, car repairs, contracts, issues between roommates, consumer dissatisfaction, employment issues and many others.
