2 History: Yeditepe University Department of Psychology was founded in 2004 under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and has been located at the Kayışdağı Campus since then. The department had its first graduates in the year Qualification Awarded: A Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree in Psychology is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum. Level of Qualification: First Cycle Specific Admission Requirements: The general requirements explained in General Admission Requirements of Information on the Institution part are applied for admission of students. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal): The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their education to obtain Bachelor s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Yeditepe University and hence the Department is not an exception to this. Qualification Requirements and Regulations: Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the program (equivalent to a total 240 ECTS). Profile of the Program: The goals of the program are providing an excellent education for our undergraduate students in their future professional achievements at the local and international platforms; contributing to the improvement and prestige of our university at the local and international levels through education, science and research; serving our country, science, and humanity. The objectives of the program are fostering psychology majors to understand mental, emotional, social and cultural structures and processes as the bases of human behavior; teaching scientific methods to be used for the acquisition of knowledge; reinforcing critical thinking skills; enabling students to use the principles of psychology at personal and social levels; creating awareness of ethical and social responsibility; providing application opportunities at our research laboratories. Occupational Profiles of Graduates: Graduates of the undergraduate program in psychology can utilize their skills in academic settings, consultancy firms or other organizations as a researcher. They are also employment in the fields of public relations and media, human resources, advertising, marketing, nongovernmental organizations engaged in community and social work, and in pre-school or school settings, or in institutions for special education. To work professionally as a clinical psychologist, a Master s or further degrees are required.

3 Access to Further Studies: The graduates holding Bachelor s Degree are eligible to apply for Master s Degree programs at national and/or international level both in the same and in related disciplines. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading: Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project of course evaluation. The assessment for each course is described in detail in Individual Course Description. Percentage Course Grade Grade Points AA BA BB CB CC DC DD and below F 0.00 Other Grades: I: Incomplete is given to a student who provides supporting evidence through genuine and valid documentation of illness or other reason which has prevented her/him from completing the necessary course work. In such a case, within 15 days form the day of submitting the grades to the Registrar s Office, the student required complete the missing work and obtain a grade. Otherwise, the I grade will automatically become an F P: Pass is given to students who are successful in taking non-credit courses. X: In Progress is used when the work of a student is a course extends past the time for reporting grades. T: Transfer is given to courses accepted as equivalents in transfers form other universities. W: Withdrawal is given if a student withdraws from a course after the add/drop period within the first 10 weeks after the semester starts, with the recommendation of her/his advisor and the permission of the instructor concerned. NC: NON-CREDIT IS GIVEN TO THE STUDENTS WHO ARE SUCCESSFUL IN NON-CREDIT COURSES. ND: Non-Degree is given to an applicant who wishes to take graduate courses but does not wish to be in a degree program may request admission on a non-degree basis Overall Classification of the Qualification Satisfactory Honors High Honors * Grade Point Averages: The student s standing is calculated in the form of a GPA and CGPA, and announced at the end of each semester by the Registrar s Office. The total credit points for a course are obtained by multiplying the grade point of the final grade by the credit hours. In order to obtain the GPA for any given semester, the total credit points earned in that semester are divided by the total credit hours. The CGPA is calculated by taking into account all the courses taken by a student from the beginning of entrance to the University which are recognized as valid by Department in which she/he is registered.

5 Facilities: In the Psychology Major Program there are 7 assistant professors and 4 research assistants. In addition to the full time members, lecturers give contributions as half time members. There is one computer per each person in each office and a common printer for the department to which all the computers are connected. The classrooms where the lectures are held meet the requirements and contain a projector device. The department owns two projectors and an overhead projector. Our students can reach the sources they need through computer by the database of the library of the university. Yeditepe University that was established in 1996 owns a library in the Rectorate building that serves over an area of 6000 square meters and with 400 seats. There are computer terminals at various places in the university which are open to the students. There is one laboratory in the Psychology Department used actively by the faculty and the undergraduate students. There are also double major programs between Psychology and one of the following Departments, provided that the GPA of the student is sufficient: Anthropology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Philosophy, Public Relations and Publicity, Nursing and Health Services, Law, Economics, English Language and Literature, English Language Teaching, Business Administration, Guidance and Psychological Counseling, Advertising Design and Communication, Sociology, History, Theatre, Turkish Language and Literature, and Political Science and International Relations. In the framework of the Erasmus students exchange program the Department of Psychology also have relationships with some European universities such as Bremen (Germany), Osnabrück (Germany), Salzburg (Austria), Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Holland), Erasmus University of Rotterdam (Holland), Middlesex (United Kingdom), Rome Sapienza (Italy) and Jagiellonian (Poland) universities open to our Psychology major students. Program Learning Outcomes: LO 1. Mastering the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, and historical trends of psychology as a scientific discipline. LO 2. Demonstrating familiarity with the subfields of psychology and their methods and applications. LO 3. Incorporating the theories and empirical bases of psychology. LO 4. Comparing the similarities and differences of other scientific disciplines with psychology, understanding their potential contribution to psychology, and develop an awareness of interdisciplinary studies. LO 5. Understanding the basic characteristics and principles of psychological research, and research ethics. LO 6. Understanding the basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data collection, data analysis and explanation by using recent information technologies. LO 7. Designing and conducting research studies to answer psychological questions by using relevant research methods, knowledge and skills. LO 8. Learning to access knowledge, to use it effectively, to review interdisciplinary literature, and to use the relevant database and other resources. LO 9. Applying critical thinking and scientific approach to understand theories, research methods and applications in psychology.

6 LO 10. Developing analytical, critical and creative thinking and expression being both logical and fluent. LO 11. Developing an awareness of potential application areas of main research findings in psychology. LO 12. Incorporating theoretical and practical knowledge in the area of psychology and its related areas of specialization. LO 13. Learning the application areas and methods of psychology, and understanding the importance of the commitment to the professional code of ethics. LO 14. Integrating psychological knowledge and theories to produce social, cultural and theoretical explanations within the framework of professional code of ethics. 7 TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS Teaching and Learning Methods Teaching-learning methods and strategies are determined to enhance students skills such as working independently, lifelong learning, observation, teaching others, presentation, critical thinking, teamwork, using information technologies effectively. Teaching styles are also developed in a way to support students with various talents. 13 Course Evaluatıon By Students The Students Evaluation of Teaching is a university-wide survey carried out through the webbased Student Information System (SIS), which provides every student with the opportunity to give feedback to all courses they are enrolled in. Besides, the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences uses its own course evaluation forms in each semester. Results of the evaluations are filed, and then submitted to the departments to be conveyed to the relevant teaching staff by the head of the departments at the end of each semester. The resulting score less than 2.5 out of 5 are discussed between the head of the department and the relevant teaching staff. A sample course evaluation form is shown below:
