2 May Club Night Thank you to everyone who came along to our social evening at The Wheatsheaf. Unfortunately, it wasn t warm enough to stay outside but we gathered in the restaurant for a lovely evening of plentiful food, drinks and chat. Many thanks to John at the Wheatsheaf and his helpful, friendly staff. June Club Night The Juniors are working hard on their production of HOODWINKED, a musical version of Robin Hood. Do come along to Club Night on Thursday 18th June, 7.30pm, at Ballard School for a fun evening s entertainment. The performance will be followed by refreshments and a chance to chat to the cast! A wine bar will be available. Entrance is free to Members and Patrons and 3 for guests payable on the door. Some of the cast members of June Club Night s production of Hoodwinked! 2

3 Shadowlands - A play by William Nicholson 28th - 31st October This play was originally presented at The Theatre Royal,Plymouth on 5th October 1989 and first presented in London at The Queen's Theatre three weeks later with Nigel Hawthorne and Jane Lapotaire heading the cast. Many of you will remember the subsequent film which came out in 1993; directed by Richard Attenborough the film starred Anthony Hopkins as C.S. Lewis with Julian Fellowes also being featured in the film. THE PLOT! C.S.Lewis, a world renowned Christian Theologian, Professor and writer, known famously for being the creator of The Chronicles of Narnia, leads a comfortable and seemingly passionless life surrounded by his like minded bachelor, academic friends...that is until he meets a spirited poet from The U.S! THE CAST C.S.Lewis......an Oxford don in his fifties; known as "Jack" Major W.H.Lewis("Warnie")...Lewis's bachelor brother Professor Christopher Riley...an Oxford don Rev."Harry" Harrington...an Oxford chaplain Alan Gregg...an Oxford don Dr, Maurice Oakley...an Oxford don Joy Gresham,nee Davidman...an American, late thirties Douglas...Joy's eight year old son The following characters appear once :- Registrar Clerk Witness Nurse Doctor Waiter in the Tea room Priest Waiter in Hotel THE AUDITION :- is to be held on Monday 20th July in the PAC. I have the scripts and if you are at all interested I do urge you to read this delicately charming, moving play which deals sympathetically with the relationships between all these well developed characters and I look forward to hearing from you. 4 September Club Night Jane Sykes has gallantly offered to direct a One Act play for our September Club Night and she needs YOU to help! Here s a message from Jane with the details : 'Nasty Things Murders' by Arthur Lovegrove. The action takes place on a winter's evening in the lounge of the Brantley Home for Retired Gentlewomen. CAST: Ethel Louise Madge Mary The Matron All the characters are of somewhat indeterminate age, between 50/70. This is a gentle, fun play with a twist at the end. Please give me a ring on or at janems233@gmail.com if you would be interested in helping me with my directorial debut!!!!!!! PS: I intend presenting this as a well rehearsed play reading, with movement - but words will not have to be learned completely! This is a great opportunity for new members to have a go but experienced actresses are, of course, also welcome! 5 Storage A HUGE thank you to the heroic members who spent a weekend reorganising our storage facilities. We now have more space in the Church Store for costumes and electricals and will also be able to house our library of scripts in there. The new container will provide extra space for scenery and will also be used as a workshop. Special thanks to Len Reid who organised the purchase and installation of the new container and rallied the troops for the reorganisation.
