The programme defined in ECTS points The bachelor s programme in economics and business administration (HA) is a 3-year research-based fulltime programme. The programme comprises 180 ECTS points. 5. Academic profile of the programme The programme provides bachelors in economics and business administration with comprehensive knowledge and insight into the methods and scientific basis of this subject area. These skills qualify graduates for further studies in relevant master s programmes and for employment on the basis of the programme. The programme provides bachelors in economics and business administration with intellectual qualifications to describe, formulate and communicate problems and results in a scientific context, conduct economics and business administration-related analyses by the use of scientific methods, and it provides them with the qualifications to structure their own learning process. The acquisition of professional qualifications enables graduates to assess and employ methods in the subject area of economics and business administration and to demonstrate insight into its central disciplines, theories and concepts. After successfully completing the programme, bachelors in economics and business administration will have acquired practical qualifications in analysing concrete problems in a professional business context, enabling them to exercise and substantiate professional decisions. 6. Educational profile (1) The educational objectives of the programme The course will be based on Bloom s taxonomy and will take the following fundamental view of the taxonomy: While focus in the knowledge domain is on students ability to reproduce knowledge, the comprehension domain focuses on students understanding of the knowledge that is being reproduced. In the application domain students will translate theory into practice, and in the analysis domain they will acquire the ability to analyse elements in general and, thus, to explain the connections and organisational principles governing the phenomenon that is being studied. The synthesis domain focuses on developing methods and the ability to explain abstract principles and connections, and in the evaluation domain students will consider, critically, the value of the acquired knowledge (putting it into perspective). The students will reach these domains in the individual modules as well as in the programme in general. 2

3 Bloom s taxonomy The skills connected to the individual domains 1. Knowledge Remembering, recognising, describing and simply explaining facts, phenomena, ideas 2. Comprehension Translating forms of communication, interpreting and emphasising key information, extrapolating consequences 3. Application Using concepts in situations where their use is unspecified, e.g. in solving open problems 4. Analysis Reducing and analysing parts of a context, analysing contexts and organising principles 5. Synthesis Producing unique communication, drawing up plans, operationalising models, deducing abstract relations, discovering new patterns 6. Evaluation Making evaluations on the basis of internal criteria (insecurity, consistency) or external criteria (social, ethical) (2) The educational organisation of the programme The programme takes the form of a problem-oriented and project-based learning process, in which students combine diverse studies in a number of lectures, projects and group assignments. Students are responsible for their own learning process. Each individual module and the programme in general will provide students with three active insights: (1) insight into the concrete application of the acquired knowledge in a wider professional context and in society in general, (2) insight into the characteristics of economics and business administration, and (3) insight into how things are out into perspective. These three active insights provide students with the qualifications to answer the following questions: Knowledge about the concrete application Aside from professionals, who are active in this subject area? What, why, how, via which means, on which basis and with which consequences? Knowledge about the characteristics of economics and business administration What is characteristic of the problems, ways of thinking and methodology in this subject area? What are the results, and what may they be used for? What is the scientific status of the concepts and results of this subject? How is the subject structured, how is it connected to other subjects, and how does it comprise a distinct science? The ability to put things into perspective How applicable is the subject to a range of different tasks? How applicable is the subject in other subject areas? How reliable are assertions presented in the media on the matter of problems relevant to the subject area? How can students and others act in situations addressing current societal problems? 7. The module structure of the programme The programme consists of a number of modules of which the first is placed in the first semester of the social sciences base year and the following two come under the individual 2nd semester curriculum. In order to successfully obtain the title bachelor in economics and business administration (HA), students must complete the modules in progression. Students shall be entitled to 3 examination attempts for each exam; however, under special and unusual circumstances, the institution may allow a 4th or 5th attempt. If a student only has to pass one final exam which, by the curriculum, is placed in the 6th semester, the student may retake the exam in the same exam period or immediately hereafter. For re-examinations, the final mark applies. This also applies if the final mark is lower than the original mark. An exam which has been passed cannot be retaken (4) Rules governing re-exams and make-up exams Make-up exams and re-exams are conducted according to the rules that apply to ordinary exams, unless: the rules governing the exam in question explicitly stipulate specific rules for make-up exams and re-exams, or the exam in question is a written in-school exam and it is appropriate, owing to the number of examinees, to replace the written in-school exam with an oral exam. 14.
