1 Official Publication of Waterford Parks Homeowners Association Waterford Parks For Now. For a Lifetime. November 2008 Volume 2, Issue 11 National Night Out 2008 Also known as America s Night Out Against Crime, was celebrated on Tuesday, October 7th from 6 to 9pm. Waterford Parks planned a few locations for neighbors to gather and celebrate the spirit of the evening. Spearheaded by John Elstrod, Waterford Parks Neighborhood Watch Chairman, a total of 7 block parties were organized. Volunteer block captains helped to coordinate the gatherings. The neighborhood participation was outstanding. Catered hot food from Dickey s BBQ, which was provided and paid for by our HOA, along with homemade food, cookies, cupcakes and fruit provided by residents topped off the evening. Just a few objectives of National Night Out are: It s the perfect time to get to know your neighbors Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and will work together to fight back against crime NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits that our community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night. Make sure you alert your block captains if you see anything suspicious. If you re interested in being a block captain, please contact John Elstrod at jpelstrod@yahoo.com. For our neighbors who couldn t join us, we hope we ve sparked your interest to participate in next year s celebration! Copyright 2008 Peel, Inc.
