1 BING MAPS DISCONTINUES ACCESS TO THE STAGING WEB SERVICES Microsoft has changed the way in which Bing Map staging services are requested. If you use staging services in your development or testing sites, you will need to download the latest Visual Fusion installer from the IDV Solutions FTP site and make some configuration changes. The sections below outline what this change means, how to make sure that you are correctly accessing Bing Maps services, and how to configure Visual Fusion to use the correct application ID. PRODUCTION VS. STAGING: HOW IT HAS CHANGED Visual Fusion uses the Bing Maps Services in three different ways: When the map application is first loaded, to make the map tiles available. When using the fly-to tool. When adding a new item to Visual Fusion lists and libraries in SharePoint to geocode the item. When configuring Visual Fusion to use Bing Maps, users can choose between the Production and Staging services. When using the Production services, you will be charged for them. Choosing the Staging option will allow you free access to those services for testing or development. The old approach: One Bing Maps application ID was used to make requests to two different sets of URLs, one for staging and one for production. 2 CREATING BING MAPS APPLICATION IDS If you manage your own relationship with Bing Maps, follow the steps below. If IDV Solutions provides application IDs for you, you will receive a notification with the application IDs for you to use, and you can disregard this section. 1. From your web browser, go to and sign in to your Bing Maps account or create a new one using your Windows Live account. If you don t have a windows live ID, click the Create button, otherwise, select sign in. 2. Sign in using your windows live account.

3 3. At the Bing Maps account center site, select the Create or View keys link. 4. Enter the application name and URL, and select the application type. To access the enterprise-level Bing Maps services, select Enterprise from the application type. To access the free Bing Maps services (for development or testing), select Developer for the application type. Note that while there is no charge when using a developer application ID, you will be limited to 125,000 sessions or 500,000 transactions within a 12 month period. A transaction is used when you first load the application, when you use the fly-to tool, or when you use a VF List or library to geocode a location. The image above shows that you can have an enterprise and developer access to the Bing Maps URLs using two different IDs. Make note of these application IDs, as they will be used to determine which type of Bing Maps applications access you will have. We recommend Enterprise access for all productions servers, and Developer access for development, testing, and staging servers. Next, follow the set of procedures below that apply to you.

4 FOR CUSTOMERS USING VISUAL FUSION 4.5 WITH SHAREPOINT 1. Download the latest Visual Fusion installer (either VFS 4.5 Enterprise or VFS 4.5 Standard) from the IDV Solutions ftp site. 2. Copy the installer to the file system of the web-front-end server where Visual Fusion is installed. 3. Right-click on the setup.exe file, and choose Run as administrator from the context menu. 4. Click the NEXT button to proceed. 5. At the system check screen, click the NEXT button assuming all prerequisites have been met. 6. The installer should identify that Visual Fusion 4.5 is already installed. Choose the Repair Solution option and click NEXT. 7. At the Visual Fusion License Key window, enter the Visual Fusion License Key provided by IDV and select the Next button. 8. At the Bing Maps Application ID screen, enter the Bing Maps Application ID appropriate for this environment. Click the Next button, and wait for the installation to complete.

5 FOR CUSTOMERS USING VISUAL FUSION 4.5 WITHOUT SHAREPOINT (IIS-ONLY) 1. Download the latest Visual Fusion installer (either VFS 4.5 Enterprise or VFS 4.5 Standard) from the IDV Solutions ftp site. 2. Find the Virtual Directory where the IIS-only version was installed. (The default is c:\inetpub\wwwroot\vf45) 3. Open up the web.config file. 4. Update the Bing Maps DefaultReleaseMode to Production. <Set name="defaultreleasemode" value="production"/> 5. Update the BingMaps staging URLs by removing staging from the Value property. Download the latest Visual Fusion installer (either VFS 4.5 Enterprise or VFS 4.5 Standard) from the IDV Solutions ftp site. 2. Open up the solution in Visual Studio. 3. Expand the web project. 4. Open up the web.config file. 5. Update the BingMaps Tile Mode to Production <Set name="defaultreleasemode" value="production"/> 6. Update the BingMaps staging URLs by removing staging. From the value property. Deploy solution.

6 8. To make sure that future SDK projects have the correct settings automatically, download and install the latest build of the VF 4.5 SDK from our FTP site to your development workstation.
