1 Miami University Graduation Survey Certificate and Associate s Degree Recipients The Graduation Survey asks degree candidates about their experiences while attending Miami and their postgraduation plans. The results are split into two categories: 1) all certificate or associate's degree recipients, and 2) participants who received only a certificate or associate's degree, and did not receive a higher level degree. The current report focuses on students who received only a certificate or associate s degree (N = 73, 41.0% response rate). However, results for both groups are available in the attached tables. Students completed the Graduation Survey online, during their final semester at Miami. Detailed results, including historical comparisons, are attached. Additional results for bachelor s and graduate degree recipients are available online at: Future Plans Because students complete the Graduation Survey prior to graduation, information about their future plans is considered preliminary. Complete information on recent graduates' career and educational placement will be available through the New Alumni Success Project (previously called the Post Graduation Follow Up Project). Details on the New Alumni Success Project are available at graduation. Compared to last year, there was an increase in the percentage of students planning to work after graduation and a decrease in the percentage planning to continue their education. Only 51.4% of graduates plan to continue their education the next fall, compared with 58.3% of graduates. 79.2% of graduates plan to work after graduation, compared with 69.0% of graduates. o 50.0% of graduates plan to work full time in their field of study while 20.8% plan to work full time outside their field of study. o Among students who had begun searching for employment, 50.0% had received at least one offer of employment or were already working by the time they completed the survey. o Among students who had accepted an offer of employment or were already working at the company where they would be employed, the majority (90.9%) had been previously employed with the company. o Half of the participants (50.0%) who secured a position reported that their position does not require a college degree. 30.0% of participants plan to work in a position that requires an associate s degree while another 20.0% obtained a position that requires a bachelor s degree. Nearly all of the students (90.4%) plan to live in Ohio after graduation. Experiences at Miami 95.7% of students reported that their classes at Miami were intellectually challenging. 87.0% agreed that Miami prepared them to work with others from different cultures. At the same time, 71.4% of students reported that they had discussions with people of a different background often or very often during the past school year. There was a large increase this year in the percentage of students reporting that they worked on an independent study project (47.8% this year compared with 25.4% last year). Similarly, 16.4% of current graduates reported working with a faculty member on a research project, while only 11.3% did so in Fewer students reported participating in an internship or co op (8.2% vs. 21.1%), but there was an increase in the percentage of students who completed a student teaching experience (from 10.0% to 14.8%) or a field experience (15.0% to 34.4%). Many of the participants reported working while attending classes: 19.2% of students worked part time on campus, 43.8% worked part time off campus, and 47.9% worked full time while attending classes. 10 1 Prior to , all participants who received a certificate or associate's degree were included in these analyses. Due to the increasing number of participants who received both a certificate/associate and a bachelor's degree, in the results were split into two categories: 1) All participants who received a certificate or associate's degree, and 2) Participants who received only a certificate or associate's degree, and did not receive a higherlevel (bachelor's or graduate) degree. 2 Totals for the "Division" and "Degree Level" categories may sum to more than 100% due to students receiving multiple degrees. 3 Items marked NA are not available because either, 1) the question was not asked in that year, or 2) the response size was too small to allow for analyses. 4 The response option was changed beginning with the survey. Previously the option read, "Accepted an offer of employment." 5 Salaries listed are based on participants who will be working full time and reported an annual salary. 6 The response option was changed beginning with the survey. Previously the option read, "Participated in an internship." 7 The response option was changed beginning with the survey. Previously the option read, "Participated in a leadership program." 8 The response option was changed beginning with the survey. Previously the option read, "Taught at least one class."
