5 Basic principles StudO M Law DD English 1 Basic principles These programme regulations govern the double degree Master s programmes at the Faculty of Law at the University of Zurich (Faculty of Law) and foreign partner faculties (partner faculties). They substantiate and complete the framework ordinance for the double degree Master s programmes of the Faculty of Law at the University of Zurich and foreign partner faculties (RVO DD). The study programme at the Faculty of Law is governed by the regulations applicable to the Master s programmes of the Faculty of Law the framework regulations for Bachelor s and Master's degrees at the Faculty of Law at the University of Zurich (RO) and the Master of Law study regulations (StudO M Law) for the Faculty of Law at the University of Zurich as well as additional regulations of these programme regulations. The study programme at partner faculties is governed by the regulations of the partner faculties. 2 University degrees On successful completion of the Double Degree Master's programme, the Faculty of Law confers the university degree of «Master of Law UZH» of the Faculty of Law as well as the corresponding degree of the partner faculty as a double degree. The Master of Law as part of the Double Degree Master's programme can be taken either with or without one of the following specifications: European and International Law International Business Law 3 Structure of the English study programme at the Faculty of Law 3.1 The study programme at the Faculty of Law at a glance The study programme at the Faculty of Law is divided into three possible Master's programmes: University of Zurich, Faculty of Law page 5

6 StudO M Law DD English Assessments Master of Law UZH (General Studies) Master of Law UZH (European and International Law) Master of Law UZH (International Business Law) The Double Degree Master s programmes are full-time courses. 3.2 Admission and application procedure The candidate must be nominated by the Faculty of Law or by the partner faculty as a condition for admission. The admission and application procedure is governed, in addition to the provisions of Section 2.4 StudO M Law and of RVO DD, in an information sheet. When applying, the Master s programme at the Faculty of Law and the relevant degree programme at the partner faculty must be selected. 4 Assessments 4.1 Passing assessments The requirements for passing assessments are specified in RO and 18 RVO DD. All official assessments must be taken in English. 4.2 Maximum number of failed attempts Students are allowed failed attempts totalling a maximum of 24 credits. 4.3 Procedure in case of failure Students can retake failed module examinations a maximum of two times subject to the number of permissible failed attempts. If a student fails to pass an assessment, he/she can choose the date of the retake or substitution in agreement with the coordination office or the module coordinator. Students must additionally complete elective modules totalling 36 credits and written homework or work as part of moot courts to acquire a further 18 credits.
