First we assist RSA underwriters so that they can accurately assess a risk. Our team of consultants is trained to handle a desktop review, to do an Estimated Maximum Loss (EML) analysis or conduct an on-site survey. This level of research gives underwriters the confidence to write the business and just as importantly, underscores the value we can bring to the insured going forward. When dealing with the insured, risk control can make a profound impact. Our consultants bring specialized experience and skills to the business. For example, RSA site surveys for property are comprehensive and detail any perils exposing your facilities to fire, explosion, flood or collapse. Dealing with risk There are four ways to approach risk each with its own merit or downside. Avoidance Avoidance is not often a practical solution, but most businesses operate with a degree of risk. Considering that risk can come from human error, accidents and natural causes, avoidance is not a practical option. Acceptance By simply accepting risk and dealing with the consequences, the game can be quite costly. Consequences can range from reduced profit, business interruption, or reputational damage not a prudent way to run a business. Transference This can be achieved by having the right insurance which gives the advantage of financial protection, along with knowing the cost of the risk and being able to budget accordingly. This may also involve self-insurance or retention strategies by the insured. Management The preferred tactic is to combine risk transfer with disciplined risk management. By assessing the risk and mitigating its potential to occur, businesses are taking a proactive approach. A sound risk management program inspires a culture of safety and can enhance a company s reputation and profits.
