3 washington.uwc.edu How to pay for college Financial aid can help you meet the difference between the cost of college and your (or your family s) ability to pay. There are four types of financial aid: Scholarships (don t have to repay): UW-WC awards 100+ scholarships totaling over $150,000. Loans (must be repaid): Fewer than half of UW-WC students take out student loans. Work-study jobs on campus Grants To qualify for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available at Be sure to write in the UW Colleges code # You may apply for financial aid anytime after January 1 of the year you plan to attend. You must submit all forms by April 1 to receive funding priority. More than half of UW-WC students receive some type of financial aid and nearly all are eligible for enough aid to cover annual tuition costs. Associate of Arts and Science degree The two-year Associate of Arts and Science (AAS) degree fulfills the UW s system-wide general education requirements for freshmen and sophomores and is the foundation for more than 200 majors. No need to choose a major right away; discover the career that s right for you. Learn the advanced skills in communications, critical thinking and working in teams that employers demand. Get a head start on your bachelor s degree or career by earning an AAS degree with an emphasis in a specific discipline like business, computer science, engineering, environmental science, health science, history, music, pre-nursing, psychology, women s studies and more. Participate in original research projects, creative writing or the arts. READY ~ How to apply SET ~ You ve been admitted GO! 1. Complete and sign the UW System Application for Undergraduate Admission with a $44 processing fee. Apply online at apply.wisconsin.edu. 1. Fill out the FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at fafsa.ed.gov, your guidance office or our campus student affairs office. 1. Meet with a UW-WC advisor to select your classes and discuss your goals. 2. Register for classes in person or online.... apply.wisconsin.edu 2. Submit (or ask your high school to submit) an official copy of your high school transcript showing a minimum of 17 high school credits, including four English, three social science, three math, three natural science and four electives. You may submit a GED or HSED in place of a high school transcript. 2. Take the required placement tests in English and math. 3. Submit a scholarship application if you are applying for scholarships. 3. Participate in the new freshmen orientation. 3. Send your ACT (American College Test) or SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) scores to the student affairs office. (ACT / SAT are not required for students more than 21 years old or for special students.)
