(1983) Treating the Sexually Abused Child. Presentation to staff members of the Children s Residential Treatment Center, Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, FORENSIC EXPERIENCE: I have been in private practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota for over 30 years. During this time, in addition to my clinical practice where I treat children and adults, I have also been involved in the practice of Forensic Psychology. I presently spend approximately fifty percent of my time in forensic evaluations and services. As a part of this work, I have completed over 1,700 forensic evaluations. In total, I have testified as an expert witness more than 500 times in a variety of court settings in the State of Minnesota as well as nationally. I have been hired by both the Defense and Plaintiff in addition to being frequently appointed as a neutral examiner by the court. Finally, I have been hired by both the United States Army and the United States Navy as an expert, and qualified as an expert to the military Court in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The psychological assessments and expert testimony I have provided include the following areas and issues in Forensic Psychology: Civil Suits Involving Claims of Pain and Suffering, and Emotional Distress: I conduct evaluations of adults and children in civil suits where pain and suffering and emotional distress is alleged. I have evaluated litigants involved in car accidents; litigants injured by physical and sexual assault; employment-related cases, including claims of discrimination; and alleged emotional trauma related to a wide variety of other physical injuries. I am regarded as an expert in the area of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; consequently, I have conducted evaluations in cases involving sexual assault by the clergy as well as in suits where abuse has occurred in the context of institutional settings such as schools and hospitals. Sexual Harassment, Gender Discrimination, and Age Discrimination: I perform independent psychological evaluations of individuals who allegedly have experienced workplace sexual harassment, gender discrimination, or age discrimination. Such evaluations are conducted to determine the emotional effects of such discrimination or harassment on the alleged victim s functioning. Criminal Law: I conduct court-ordered evaluations involving physical and sexual abuse. I have also completed evaluations for both the prosecution and defense in criminal cases involving the sexual misconduct of juveniles and adults. I have further been hired as an expert to evaluate adolescent and adult offenders, related to mental health issues, which may have an impact on sentencing. Additionally, I provide expert testimony in the area of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Recently, I have been hired as an expert by the U.S. Army and Navy in criminal cases involving Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). 18

19 Family Law: I perform evaluations related to custody disputes in the context of marital dissolutions; post-decree disputes; visitation disputes; termination of parental rights; and parental capacity evaluations. I am frequently appointed as a parenting consultant, and also provide coaching to individuals involved in custody disputes. I also conduct evaluations of children who have been allegedly abused emotionally, physically, or sexually. In addition, I have served as an expert in cases involving parental alienation and Munchausen by Proxy. I frequently act as an expert witness evaluating custody evaluations performed by other clinicians. I further often work as a Parenting Consultant related to post-decree parenting conflicts between the parties. Finally, I am frequently appointed by the court to perform neutral custody evaluations as well as in evaluating children who have allegedly been sexually or physically abused. Juvenile Court: I perform evaluations as well as provide expert testimony regarding juvenile offenders and victims in the area of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse.
