8 FACILITIES AND STUDENT LIFE The main campus in Bratislava (Petržalka) is a modern complex which meets the demanding requirements that are necessary for teaching and research, as well as for catering, accommodation and the physical activities of students. Lecture halls, classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, special language classrooms, library, bookshops etc. are available for all students. The University provides accommodation for its students in dormitories situated directly on the campus, just off the campus and throughout the city. It is able to house approximately 3,500 students. The quality of accommodation is of standard level or higher standard level (4-1 bed per room). From the dormitories outside the main campus there are good transport connections to the main campus. Student catering is provided on the main campus in a self-service dining hall with a wide selection of hot meals. There are also several cafeterias and snack bars with fast food, as well as vending machines with hot and cold drinks. The Buddy system is a student organisation that helps new students from abroad to become used to life in Bratislava. The Slovak Economic Library has a wide collection of books, periodicals, e-books, e-journals and databases. Computer rooms throughout the University are used for the teaching process and they are available to students for individual work as well. The whole campus is covered by wi-fi access points, enabling students to go online wherever they are on campus. Students can take part in a wide range of physical activities offered by the University in its residential and other sports facilities (football, tennis, table tennis, swimming, aqua aerobic, indoor football, volleyball, basketball, handball, badminton, skating, inlineskating, floor-ball, aerobics, step-aerobics, fit ball-aerobics, bodywork, power-yoga, pilates, fitness bodybuilding). In summer and in winter, training camps are organized (in winter downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding; in summer - hiking, rafting and camping). Students can join AIESEC, the world s largest youth organization, which is present in over 2,100 universities in 110 countries. Focused on providing a platform for the development of youth leadership capabilities, AIESEC offers young people the opportunity to participate in international student exchange and internship programmes, experience leadership and participate in a global learning environment. Personally, I can recommend this University with its high educational standards and friendly atmosphere. Bratislava is the right place for you! The six months I studied at the UEBA was a great time for me. I got the opportunity to receive an excellent education, with amazing teachers. All classrooms were well equipped. If you don t speak Slovak at all, like me, the school has a great buddy system that helps you in all you need until you get totally accustomed. It was my first time in Europe, my first time I saw snow Altogether, it was a wonderful experience for me. If I have the chance, I will take it again. 9 FURTHER USEFUL INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS ACADEMIC YEAR The academic year starts on 1 st September and ends on 31 st August of the following year; it is divided in two semesters/terms: winter semester and summer semester. Doctoral programmes: Master s degree, passing admission exam or, in some cases, fulfilment of additional conditions (as specified by the respective Faculty). To enrol in a Bachelor s or Master s programmes, students who are not from the Slovak Republic or the Czech Republic, are expected to submit a Slovak language certificate. 11 I spent my ERASMUS year at the University of Economics in Bratislava and it was a good choice. It was the best year of my studies. I could choose from a wide range of interesting courses and lessons and learn a lot there. I ve also improved my English. I made friends from all around Europe and the world. I attended many interesting courses and I found teachers to be experts in their fields. Moreover, they were professional and helpful in a case of any questions, discussions and projects. Anyone coming to Slovakia must be aware of one important issue, namely the Slovak hospitality and kindness. I have to admit I experienced it almost at every step.
