1 Approved June 6 th, 2012 LINC Long Range Plan for FY 2012-FY2014 (May 1st, 2012 through April 30th, 2014) Approved by the LINC Governing Board on Mission Statement To provide access to information resources by means of an integrated automated system that reflects the holdings and availability of holdings in all participating libraries. At the same time, through its computerized cooperative public library network, the Consortium promotes cooperation and resource sharing. To develop, maintain and provide technological expertise in the implementation of automated library services in order to promote efficient and effective use of tax revenues. To offer an affordable, cost effective connecting link among its member libraries. It assists in identifying and locating specific information resources and provides support for individual and cooperative collection development. Library Integrated Network Consortium Long range Plan
2 Vision Statement We share our human and information resources so that our collective strengths support and advance the work of the Consortium as a whole and its individual members. Core Values The Governing Board, Administrative Council, LINC staff and the staff of its member libraries focus on these core values: The collections of the Consortium libraries enable each member library to provide quality resources for its users. Consortium membership enhances the value of each library to its own users. Cooperative efforts are intrinsic to the successful delivery of information to Consortium libraries' users. Diversity of the individual member libraries contributes to the strength of this democratic organization. Cooperative research and development in application of information technology enhances service and realizes cost efficiencies. Staff development and interaction enhance the quality of service. The tangible assets jointly owned by the Library Integrated Network Consortium are devoted to the benefit of the member libraries. The commitment of the individual member library is essential to the success of the Consortium. The member libraries are equals in terms of the role that each library has within the Consortium. 3 Key Action Areas Communication Improve communications and working relationships among the member libraries and the LINC staff. Provide effective, timely and appropriate assistance and communications. Investigate and share opportunities within the Consortium and in regional, statewide, national and global initiatives. Technology Provide reliable, secure access to a shared integrated library automation system used by our members and their patrons. Plan for hardware, software and network upgrades and implementation of new products. Provide implementation schedules, training and documentation. Services Support and strengthen the services provided to the members by the Consortium. Evaluate current services and set priorities as per the member libraries. Implement new services and provide training and documentation. Library Integrated Network Consortium Long range Plan

Software Enterprise as OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) Initial implementation by LINC and SirsiDynix staff (April 2012) Staff review (Summer, 2012) Create a pros and cons list and present it to the administrators/members(september, 2012) If we implement it, training (Third quarter, 2012 and ongoing) If we implement, rollout by each library: (Third quarter, 2012 and ongoing) Symphony GL or latest update (September, 2012) Recommend next upgrade for the server and staff clients Examine release notes Do extensive testing on the test server Highlight changes to staff prior to upgrades Implement special features of Symphony GL3.4 Test and implement those features that libraries are interested in using (Ongoing) Family Card, Blanket Holds, Credit payments etc. Director s Station and its replacement product: Analytic Station Continue training and working with the members. Implement A.S. when product is ready. 8 Maintain and continue to develop user-friendly tools to support member self-service do-it-yourself custom reports (Ongoing) 9xx ordering and acquisition grids from various vendors (April 2007) 2. Perform ongoing product and services assessment to improve offerings and services Vendor Relations Continue to work with OCLC and help our members use their products to the best of their ability Work with new formats, such as digital material, and assist our members with these materials (Ongoing) Work with new vendors as needed (Ongoing) Work with other libraries and consortia (Ongoing) Increase knowledge of members' needs, interests and expectations Conduct focus groups every three-five years (2014) Attend department or staff meetings and/or in-service day meetings or board meetings at the member libraries upon request (Ongoing) Set up special committees on important issues as needed (Ongoing) Visit each library at least 2 times a year (Ongoing) 3. Maintain viability through effective management of LINC's resources and infrastructure Maintain an up-to-date physical and technical environment to ensure prompt and effective service and a safe, clean and welcoming workplace.
