PrinterOn Enterprise has been designed for optional integration with existing network infrastructures, including LDAP and Print Management Systems. PrinterOn Enterprise Installation Guide 4

5 2. Before you begin Prior to starting the setup of your PrinterOn Enterprise Server, please review all of the system requirements, recommended applications to install and other installation requirements System requirements You must have local administrator access on the computer which will run the PrinterOn Enterprise software. The administrator account must have a password (blank password is not allowed). It is suggested that you create a dedicated PrinterOn Service user account. PrinterOn recommends the following minimum system requirements for the computer running the PrinterOn Enterprise software: A dedicated physical server or virtual machine Intel compatible processor with 2GHz multi-core processor 2 GB RAM minimum (4 GB recommended) 2 GB of free disk space for PrinterOn Enterprise software and third party applications Windows Server 2008 including 2008R2 (32 or and 64-bit) with current patches installed All Editions supported except HPC Windows Server 2012 including 2012R2 (with current patches installed) All Editions supported Internet Explorer 9 or greater, with current patches installed Internet access is available at all times NOTEL: IIS (Internet Information Services) must be disabled if installed; otherwise the Apache/Tomcat Web Server must be configured to run on a port other than Recommended Applications To ensure compatibility and highest quality print output, installing the following applications on the PrinterOn Enterprise server is highly recommended: Microsoft Office, with current patches installed (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio). LibreOffice 4 or OpenOffice 4 later (PrinterOn recommends using LibreOffice for improved document quality) If you require OpenOffice, you must install OpenOffice v4.0 or later. Please note: PrinterOn Enterprise is capable of printing Microsoft Office documents with OpenOffice or LibreOffice Ensure that each application is fully installed and activated using the PrinterOn Service user account before installing the PrinterOn Enterprise software Print Support PrinterOn Enterprise supports three protocols; select the option that best fits your environment Microsoft Exchange using MAPI MAPI is Microsoft s proprietary messaging API. Use this if your server does not support the IMAP4 protocol. PrinterOn Enterprise Installation Guide 5

6 PrinterOn Enterprise uses a printer s SMTP address to determine the destination printer name, therefore if using Exchange servers prior to 2007 ensure that SMTP services are enabled and the server is capable of using SMTP addressing. X.400 addressing is not supported. If using an existing corporate Exchange server for printing as well, Exchange 2007 or later is required. If using a separate Exchange server strictly for printing, Exchange 2003 is supported. PrinterOn Enterprise must be on the same Windows domain as the Exchange server to connect to the server. The PrinterOn Enterprise PasPort Windows service must be configured with user credentials that have read and write access to the mailbox configured on the Exchange server IMAP4 IMAP4 is a commonly used protocol for Internet ; the PrinterOn Enterprise server may connect to your mail server using IMAP4. Most modern servers support IMAP4 including Microsoft Exchange. PrinterOn Enterprise will only respond to users using the SMTP, which must be enabled on your mail server. When supporting printing, a mail server must be available and a dedicated print mailbox should be created. To fully support PrinterOn Enterprise printing addresses must be configured in one of 4 ways: An catchall configuration should be applied to the mail server. This will allow users to forward messages to the mail server and all print jobs will be directed to the pre-configured print mailbox. Multiple addresses configured for a single mailbox on your mail server. This is feasible when the number of addresses required is minimal. If using Microsoft s ActiveSync to enable mobile devices to connect to your Exchange server: Configure individual mailboxes for each printer address, and one central mailbox. For each printer mailbox, automatic forwarding must be configured to automatically copy messages from the printer s mailbox to the central PrinterOn mailbox. If using Lotus Notes Client integration, the Domino server must be configured to leverage the Domino Group feature. The Domino Group can be configured to function as a mailing list. As part of the deployment, a dedicated mail server may be installed and deployed on the PrinterOn Enterprise server. The hmailserver ( is a free, Windows-based server that is both simple to install and configure. It may be used to enable printing on your PrinterOn Enterprise Server IBM Domino Server using Notes API Notes API is IBM s proprietary access protocol that encompasses a set of subroutines and data structures to grant third-party applications authorized access to Domino Server and Lotus Notes Client databases. In order to support Notes API integration, you must ensure that IBM Lotus Notes Client software is installed on the PrintAnywhere Server and configured to do the following. Establish communication with the IBM Domino Server. Notes Client mailbox configured to receive s. PrinterOn Enterprise Installation Guide 6

26 8. Printing 8.1. Prerequisites for Printing To configure your server to accept print jobs, you will need to configure some details in PrintAnywhere. When configuring your mail service it is important to know prior to configuring what method your service will use to connect to the mail server. Options include Microsoft s Messaging APIs (MAPI), IMAP4 mail protocol and Notes API. The PrinterOn Enterprise Server uses the standard SMTP protocol for sending s for both IMAP4 and MAPI installations. NOTE: Microsoft Exchange supports both MAPI and IMAP4 protocols, if your Exchange server is located on a separate domain than the PrinterOn Enterprise Server or you encounter other difficulties configuring your mail server, enabling IMAP4 may assist MAPI Prerequisites (with Outlook installed) If you have installed Microsoft Office with Outlook on the PrinterOn Enterprise server, Microsoft Outlook may be used to assist configuring and testing the Exchange mail profile to be used by the Enterprise server. When communicating with MAPI, the PrinterOn Enterprise Server will use a pre-configured Microsoft Mail Profile to communicate with the Exchange Server. NOTE: When creating the Mail profile with the steps below, you must be logged into the server as the user who will be running the PrintAnywhere services. This user should be both a local admin, and an admin of the mailbox you ll be using with the mail profile. 1. Start the Mail Windows Control Panel. 2. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles. 3. On the General tab, under When starting Microsoft Office Outlook, use this profile, click Prompt for a profile to be used, and then click Add. 4. In the Profile Name box, type the name that you want to use for the new profile, and then click OK. 5. In the Accounts dialog box, click Add a new account, and then click Next. 6. Click the appropriate server type for your new account, this should be Microsoft Exchange, and then click Next. 7. Type your account information in the required boxes, and then click Next. 8. Click Finish, and then click OK. Test the Mail Profile The PrinterOn Enterprise Server will use this newly created mail profile to communicate with the Exchange Server. 32 9. Appendix A Additional Configuration Information 9.1. Configuring Internet Explorer Enhanced Security In order to print web pages that are submitted through CPS, Internet Explorer s Enhanced Security must be disabled. The server will need to be able to connect to and open the URL a user submits CPS API Keys and Access To communicate with CPS, PrintAnywhere and the Print Delivery Gateway must be given access rights and credentials to request user information. The following section will describe the steps necessary to create the API credentials to be configured in PrintAnywhere or PDG. 1. Ensure you are logged into CPS. 2. Click on the Admin tab and scroll to the CPS API Management section. 3. Under the API Users section click Add User. 4. Enter a new username and password for the CPS API user. This information will later be set in the PrintAnywhere Configuration tool. (This will be described in detail further in this documentation.) 5. Under the API Access Keys click Generate. NOTE: The username, password and API key will be configured in the PrintAnywhere server. In order to request user information, PrintAnywhere must first authenticate itself using these credentials. Please note that PrintAnywhere does not transfer the password directly to CPS to authenticate. It will instead use the API key to generate an encrypted token used to verify the API credentials. Changing or removing any of the three values will disallow API access. PrinterOn Enterprise Installation Guide 32
