2 Introduction Virtual Administrative Skills builds and applies customer service and critical thinking skills while completing sixteen administrative tasks. The goal of the product is to gain proficiency and confidence in students abilities and skills to begin a career as an administrative medical assistant. The product provides instant feedback with rationales and students have the added ability to view their Performance Review, which will help them gain proficiency and confidence. Overview: This is a simulation in which student plays the role of a new employee at Douglasville Medical Associates, a family practice with three providers. They will work closely with the office manager, who assigns tasks to complete over their first week on the job. Tasks will require students to demonstrate professionalism and knowledge of key administrative functions, including customer service, financial and office maintenance activities. Tasks can be completed in any order by selecting them from the Weekly Planner or the Task Selection menu. If a student needs help, they can reference the Orientation Binder, which provides resources to assist them in completing their work. At the end of each task, they will receive feedback on their performance from the Office Manager. The office manager must be satisfied with their work in order for them to receive a passing score. If she isn t, they will be prompted to try again. Students can access all of their scores in their performance review on the last day of the week. Through successful completion of this simulation, students will feel more confident in their knowledge, ability, and skills to begin their careers as administrative medical assistants. 3 Getting Started with Virtual Administrative Skills Logging in to Virtual Administrative Skills 1. To get started, navigate to: login.cengagebrain.com a. If this is your first time using a Cengage Learning Product, you will need to create a new account. 2. Create Profile a. Now you will need to enter the Virtual Administrative Skills access code which came with your text. 3. Complete the Account Information form, read, and accept the license agreement, and then click Continue. 4. You will now need to select your institution. 4 5. Once you locate your institution, you will be directed to your dashboard. 6. To access the Virtual Administrative Skills product which you just registered, press Open. Returning User 1. To get started, navigate to: login.cengagebrain.com. Please log in to your CengageBrain account to activate your product. 8 choices: A) Medical History form B) Patient Registration form C) Notice of Privacy Practices D) Encounter form a. The screen contains a visual thumbnail for each form-each one can be clicked on and reviewed b. Answer and feedback: i. B-FB: That s right. Great job! Click Continue to proceed. ii. A-EM: Not quite. The Medical History form provides the physician with an overview of the general health of the patient. Try again. iii. C-EM: That s incorrect. The Notice of Privacy Practices states how patient s medical information will be used and disclosed and ho the patient can gain access to that information. Try again. iv. D-EM: Sorry, try again. The Encounter form is a patient billing form. 6. Click on The Orientation Binder which can be referenced at anytime 7. Video plays automatically: New patient approaches front desk and announces that he is here for his initial appointment with Dr. Peterson. He receives paperwork to fill out, completes it, and returns to the counter. Auto advance to Next Frame. 8. Complete the Patient Registration form to complete his demographic information. Medical Assistant checks her in for her appointment. 11. Follow patient information box to complete the task. You must click on the Primary Insurance tab to enter Ms. Henson s new information b. Try Again. Which section of Patient Registration will allow you to update Ms. Henson s insurance information? c.
