Together, for a better life.
Before You Travel with Oxygen With forward planning, travelling with oxygen both in and out of the UK can be done easily and safely. IMPORTANT: Always seek medical advice before you travel. It is important to discuss your travel and holiday plans with your healthcare professional before making any arrangements. Going Away in the UK n If you are travelling anywhere in the UK the oxygen service is provided by the NHS n A Home Oxygen Order Form (HOOF) is no longer required for oxygen orders for a holiday as long as there is no change to your flow rate and hours per day or change to the type of equipment that you currently use at home n If your holiday requirements differ from your current supply at home then please contact your healthcare professional n Get permission from your holiday accommodation provider to make sure that they are happy to accept the oxygen equipment being delivered n If you have a supply of liquid oxygen make sure that the holiday destination has suitable ground floor space to accommodate the liquid oxygen base unit
n Please contact our 24/7 Customer Helpline to give as much notice as possible before you travel n Make sure you contact us no less than 3 business days before you are due to travel, as it may not be possible to arrange oxygen for your holiday at very short notice n Our 24/7 Customer Helpline will need to know: l The full holiday destination address (including post code) l Start and End dates for the holiday l Any booking references or the name under which the reservation has been made l Contact details for somebody who can take receipt of the oxygen equipment before your arrive at your destination mobile number if possible n Oxygen equipment will be ready for you when you arrive and will be collected when you leave n Remember to take enough portable oxygen for your journey to and from your holiday destination n If you travel with portable cylinders please remember to bring back your empty cylinders so that they can be returned to Air Liquide (Homecare) Ltd n If the holiday is in a region that another supplier covers, then we will contact them with your details and requirements n We will write to you confirming your request for holiday oxygen supply and tell you who the regional supplier is n If you have not had confirmation of your holiday oxygen requirements before you travel, contact the regional supplier directly on the telephone number provided If for any reason, you cannot travel please call our 24/7 Customer Helpline to cancel your holiday oxygen Travel & Holiday Guide for Home Oxygen Users
Scotland and Northern Ireland The NHS Home Oxygen Service is available throughout the UK but is different in Scotland and Northern Ireland. If you are planning to travel to Scotland or Northern Ireland, then discuss this with your healthcare professional, they will need to complete a holiday home oxygen order form for the oxygen equipment to be arranged. Transporting Oxygen Equipment n Cylinders: l ALWAYS ensure that cylinders are secured safely in the boot of the vehicle, behind the front seats or in the back seat with a secure fastening l NEVER transport cylinders in the front passenger seat l ALWAYS secure cylinders before driving off n Concentrator: l The concentrator must always be kept in an upright position l The safest way to transport the concentrator is to place it upright in the foot well of the vehicle between the front and back seat l ALWAYS remember to take the back-up cylinder with you in case of emergencies such as a power failure and secure safely within the vehicle n Liquid Oxygen Units: l ALWAYS keep liquid oxygen units upright l ALWAYS secure liquid oxygen units before driving off n REMEMBER to take enough portable oxygen for your journey to and from your holiday destination n Tell your car insurance provider that you will be transporting a small volume of oxygen in your vehicle for your use n The use of warning stickers is not required and may give misleading information to the emergency services n NEVER use oxygen in a petrol station n NEVER smoke in your vehicle when travelling with oxygen
Holidays Outside the UK Planning to Travel Abroad n Travelling abroad with oxygen is not a free service n The oxygen equipment supplied by Air Liquide (Homecare) Ltd may only be used within the UK n If you are arranging oxygen supplies yourself, please contact our 24/7 Customer Helpline to speak to one of our holiday team members - who will be able to give you help and advice n Our holiday team can give you details of oxygen providers in many countries who can supply oxygen equipment whilst you are abroad n If you are travelling in the EEA please contact the Department of Health Customer Call Centre on for more information n If you are travelling in the EEA (European Economic Area) you may want to apply for an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card). Call or visit to apply n Remember to arrange travel insurance Ask your holiday accomodation provider for permission for oxygen equipment to be delivered and stored before arranging your holiday oxygen supply Travel & Holiday Guide for Home Oxygen Users
By Bus, Coach or Train When you are planning to travel by any public transport (bus, coach, or train) please contact your carrier and tell them that you will be travelling with oxygen equipment provided to you as part of your medical treatment. Cruises and Ferries Oxygen for cruise holidays outside the UK is not available under the Home Oxygen Service. Please contact our 24/7 Customer Helpline and speak to one of our holiday team members for further advice. Contact your cruise company at least 10 days before you travel to make sure they can accommodate your oxygen requirements and are happy for you to have oxygen equipment on board. You should also check they will be able to provide you with any additional assistance you may need. Travelling by Air Air Liquide (Homecare) Ltd oxygen equipment is not available for flights outside the UK. Your healthcare professional will advise if you need to attend an in-flight oxygen assessment which will determine if you are able to fly and how much oxygen you may need during the flight. Before you book your flight you MUST check with the airline to see if they can assist you with your in-flight oxygen requirements.
Important Safety Information n REMEMBER, wherever you use oxygen equipment, the same important safety rules apply whether you are at home or travelling n ALWAYS ensure the oxygen equipment and supplies are stored safely and securely n ALWAYS keep the concentrator and liquid oxygen unit upright n NEVER use the oxygen equipment near open fires or naked flames n Make sure you fully understand how to use any equipment that has been supplied to you while travelling, as it may differ from the equipment you normally use at home n NEVER smoke or allow others around you to smoke whilst you are using oxygen equipment n NEVER use oil or grease on oxygen equipment n ALWAYS wash hands thoroughly after applying sun lotions and creams and ensure they do not come into contact with your oxygen equipment Enjoy your holiday Travel & Holiday Guide for Home Oxygen Users
