Hospitals and other health care organizations present a quadruple threat in terms of fire and life safety. People: A large percentage of those at risk are patients persons who would be incapable of selfpreservation during a fire. They may need partial or often full assistance to evacuate the affected area or building itself. Combustible Material: Hospitals and health care organizations are filled with materials that fuel fire, including linens, paper, and other combustible supplies. Oxygen: Supplemental oxygen is a must for patient life support, but it adds tremendously to the risk of life safety in terms of fire. Ignition Sources: As with combustible materials, hospitals and health care organizations are filled with potential ignition sources including surgical equipment, lasers, construction equipment (when present) and things that are as seemingly innocuous as copiers, printers, coffee makers and microwaves. This combination of potential personal impairment, combustible materials and fuel, and ignition points create serious threat and potential for risk. Because of this, compliance with the Life Safety Code is required. This Code, created by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), spells out operational and construction standards to minimize risk of fire and maximize life safety should a fire erupt. However, understanding the Life Safety Code presents plenty of challenges. The misunderstanding of the Life Safety Code is one of the leading causes of non-compliance citations. After you understand how the codes interrelate, you must still ensure that you have the proper written documentation and that you have trained your staff how to look for non-compliant issues and detect risks in your facility. The program is based on the code requirements identified in the NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, 2000 and 2012 edition. It is web based and self-paced, with the program content all provided online. The main focus of the Life Safety Compliance certificate program is to provide individuals, who are responsible for the day-to-day engineering and operations of the healthcare facility, with the knowledge required to identify code violations before the next accreditation survey. The 2000 and 2012 edition of NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, are used to provide all code requirements discussed within this course. Other various codes and

All candidates must successfully pass the final examination Program Fees The Program Fee is $ The program fee must be received prior to starting the program. The program fee covers the following items. Six (6) Hour Online Training Course (Separated into 8 audio-visual modules) Final Examination Certificate of Completion The program fee does not include a copy of NFPA 101, 2000 or 2012 Edition. Candidates have one (1) year from the date they begin the program to complete all the requirements and take the final examination. Failure to complete these requirements and pass the final examination within one (1) year will result in forfeit of program fees. No refunds will be granted once you have started the online training portion of the program. All other refund requests must be submitted in writing. He actively performs compliance assessment surveys and interim forensic facility management for hospitals worldwide. He is currently working as an independent health care facility management consultant, associated with McKenna Consulting, Leaders for Today, Nielsen Health Care Consulting, and HCT Consulting. His work with these firms consists of two-to-three day mock survey consulting in Life Safety, Environment of Care, and Emergency Management as well as three-to-six month interim facility management. During the latter, Gene becomes intrinsically involved with forensic compliance assessment related to the Life Safety Code and associated NFPA codes/standards, Environment of Care standards and other disciplines.
