1 How to Come Up with Consistently Awesome (& Relevant) Topics for Your Video Content I want to make videos to teach and attract new clients, but how can I come up with good ideas? Where do good blog or video ideas come from? By far, this is the most frequently asked question I get regarding coaches making their own videos. They know they need to make video & they re getting ready to take the plunge. They hear all the stats on how powerful video can be for your business: 59% of consumers prefer watching video to reading text because they believe it gives them more information, more quickly than interpreting dense text. People who watch a video about a product or service are 72% more likely to buy. Video delivers ten times the response rate than traditional text and graphics. Google rewards you for using video on your site by elevating you higher in the search category than competitors who don t use video.

2 But what happens when coaches go to start making the videos? They get stuck! Their question is: How can I come up with consistently killer content ideas that attract my Ideal Client? I m going to give you everything you need, right here in this article, to help you build content that will build your value to your Ideal Clients, build your credibility and attract potential clients to you and your practice. Step 1. Set up a Google Alert In Google, you can set up news alerts for topics and subtopics in your niche so you can see what s making news and what s being said regarding those topics. This will keep you on the cutting edge of your niche. Step 2. Subscribe to experts or competitors blogs. This will also keep you connected to what other influentials/thought leaders are saying. You ll receive their posts and what they say can jog ideas. Step 3. From your own experience, develop a list of content themes. Content themes are broad topics that have two characteristics: your Ideal Client cares about these topics and they are the categories of ideas that you are adept at teaching and are constantly discussing with your clients. They are all part of your overall teaching. Since I teach marketing to coaches, my list might look like this: Ideal Client selection & communication Branding Development Messaging On-line Marketing On-Line Lead Generation Content Marketing Social Media Video Marketing PR & Media On-Line Media Sales SEO Information Products Information Product Design Content Funnel

3 I can go into deep detail on each of these topics for a video. For example, in the social media category, I could see that instagram is a hot topic today, so let s move to the next step to help us understand what we might want to say about that topic. Step 4. Develop a list of content categories. Content types or categories are evergreen ideas that you can connect with any type of business, any kind of teaching they are defining HOW you re presenting the information. Here s a list of content types or categories that can be connected with each of those broad topics in order to create a topic idea for your content video. Share company news Create a how-to guide/tutorials Solve a problem Q&A video Present a case study Review a tool, product or service Give a personal take on industry news Talk about survey research Illustrate a value you have Interview a thought leader Write a top 10 list So in our example, we d like to talk about Instagram. What about Instagram? Let s roll through the list. First, you could offer a new class on Instagram marketing (company news); or you could make a how-to tutorial; or you could use Instagram to illustrate how important it is for a certain type of communication that your client could be employing (case study). Can you interview someone who s out there as an expert in Instagram for the latest cool stuff.or how can Instagram be used to solve a common problem your clients share. Get the idea? Step 5. Make a content chart. I m going to recommend you actually make a chart..this will look like a chart (X axis down the side, Y axis across the top). The X axis is your list of content themes and the Y Axis is a list of content categories. Now, you can start to fill out the middle with ideas OR when you re stuck for content ideas, looking at these jumpstart categories and themes will help you. In fact, this method will allow you to churn out a nearly unlimited amount of great ideas!

4 Step 6. To increase views fire up their curiosity. Now the irony of all this is you can come up with some great ideas but no one will see them if the title isn t generating enough curiosity in the target person to motivate them to click on the video, and you ll have made a video that no one watches. The secret key to DRIVING and CONVERTING TRAFFIC to your great content videos: name em right. Here s a list of titles (OK, they re ideas too) that will help you name things in a compelling way. That means more views, more shares and more successful searches land on your videos! Your goal is to seduce.to get them to watch.and then you can teach the valuable information you have to share. But if you don t seduce, no one will see how awesome you are. These titles can be translated into virtually any business. A Realtor, for example, could say: Your Mother s Guide to Home Inspections; How to Stage Your Home in 90 Minutes or Less; 3 Ways to Get Listings This Weekend. What Dogs Can Teach Us About Relationship Marketing. See? Now, you try. 1. Your Mother s Guide to SEO 2. Why Net Neutrality Matters 3. How to Write a Blog Post in 90 Minutes or Less 4. How to Get 5 Times the Traffic You Have Now By Creating Video 5. 7 Ways to Repurpose a Blog Post 6. How Not to Loose Your Shirt with Google AdWords 7. MetaTags: Still Relevant? 8.
