1 Land Resources Department environmental science The Department of Land Resources prides itself on a hands on approach to learning. Students are provided a teaching/learning experience that duplicates as closely as possible real world applications. The baccalaureate degree in Natural Resource Management is developed around the general education baccalaureate degree component, a Natural Resource Management core, a specific major concentration area, and a block elective component. Environmental Science is one of the seven 4-year bachelor of science majors offered under the Natural Resource Management program. This Environmental Science concentration is designed for those students interested in environmental regulatory careers with government agencies and business consulting firms. The Environmental Science concentration prepares students for career opportunities in the private, public, academic and nonprofit sectors. Employers may include: Federal, state, and local governments Natural resources firms Utilities and manufacturers Industries and small businesses

3 Land Resources Department forest technology The Forest Technology degree program at Glenville State College has been offered for over 40 years and continues to be successful and popular. The baccalaureate degree in Natural Resource Management is developed around the general education degree component, a Natural Resource Management core, a specific major concentration area, and a block elective component. Forest Technology is one of the seven four-year bachelor of science concentrations offered under the Natural Resource Management program. Forest Technology is also offered as a two-year associate degree program. Through classroom study, field trips, hands-on lab experiences, and an internship, students will gain a blend of technical, ecological, social, and economic knowledge and skills. The associate degree program in Forest Technology prepares graduates to become forest technicians, forest fire rangers, wood yard managers, logging foremen, procurement foresters, and consultants. The four-year degree program opens up more employment opportunities in state and federal government agencies that require a bachelor s degree. Graduates will have the necessary credentials to be registered as a professional forester and/or as a registered forest technician. Glenville State College s program was originally recognized by the Society of American Foresters in 1987, and it continues to provide a high-quality education by meeting SAF standards.

5 Land Resources Department land surveying The Department of Land Resources prides itself on a hands on approach to learning. Students are provided a teaching/learning experience that duplicates as closely as possible real world applications. The baccalaureate degree in Natural Resource Management is developed around the general education baccalaureate degree component, a Natural Resource Management core, a specific major concentration area, and a block elective component. Land Surveying is one of the seven 4-year bachelor of science majors offered under the Natural Resource Management program. Land Surveying is also offered as a 2-year associate degree program. The Land Surveying concentration provides a pathway for associate degree students in land surveying to continue their education for a baccalaureate degree. Students will be technically proficient in land surveying and will be able to develop a strong concentration in geographic information systems and resource allocation for careers with government agencies and the private sector. This degree will also provide the baccalaureate degree necessary for licensure as a professional land surveyor in West Virginia and Ohio.

7 Land Resources Department landman technology The Department of Land Resources prides itself on a hands on approach to learning. Students are provided a teaching/learning experience that duplicates as closely as possible real world applications. The baccalaureate degree in Natural Resource Management is developed around the general education baccalaureate degree component, a Natural Resource Management core, seven major concentration areas and a block elective component. The seven degree concentrations are Applied Science, Business Management, Criminal Justice, Environmental Science, Forest Technology, Landman Technology and Land Surveying Technology. The Landman Technology concentration is designed for students interested in working in the oil and gas industry. Students in this concentration become technically proficient in landman technology and are eligible for four credit years of work experience to become certified by the American Association of Professional Landmen. Landman degrees are currently available in only three states east of the Rocky Mountains. Professional landmen negotiate for acquisitions or divesture of mineral rights. They can also negotiate for business agreements that provide for the exploration or development of mineral rights. Graduates of this program are able to find a large number of career opportunities with federal government agencies, such as U. S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the Environmental Protection Agency. At the state level, graduates qualify for opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources, Department of Environmental Protection and others.
