2 Integrated Community Sustainability Plans Presentation Topics What is it? Why are we doing it? When does it have to be completed? How is it prepared?
3 At its most basic an ICSP: ICSP... What? Integrated: Brings together a number of areas of municipal involvement. 1. Economic Development 2. Environmental Health 3. Social Well-Being 4. Cultural Vitality Community: The Plan can cover an entire municipality, or it can be prepared for individual communities within the municipality. Sustainability: Long-term, balanced approach to community planning. Plan: Provides a clear path forward.
4 ICSP... What? Federal Government Plan Criteria: (A) Integrate economic, environmental, social and cultural sustainability objectives. (B) Be reasonably consistent with statements of provincial interest adopted under the Municipal Government Act. (C) Be prepared with public participation. (D) Maximize the benefits of any infrastructure produced under the Gas Tax Agreement. (E) Demonstrate, where appropriate, that there has been collaboration with other municipalities to achieve sustainability objectives.

11 3 ICSP Options for Municipalities Each ICSP option is designed to build on and compliment existing planning efforts: #1. Existing MPS plan captures and meets ICSP requirements MPS is the ICSP #2. Update/amend MPS plan requires work amended MPS becomes the ICSP #3. Stand-Alone ICSP - ICSP prepared outside of traditional MPS framework Template in the Guide for each type of ICSP
12 Template #1 - MPS is the ICSP How the template works: MPS must demonstrate that it meets all ICSP requirements: relevant material from MPS is summarized in the template. Template requires a description of future policy additions or amendments that may be required to the MPS, in order to meet all sustainability goals and full ICSP criteria.
