January 14, 2015 Course Code: T292 Priya Gopalan, MD Associate Medical Director of the Consultation and Liaison Service Chief of Psychiatric Services Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC Catatonia is a syndrome of motor and behavioral features that fluctuates temporally. Common signs include mutism, negativism (purposeless resistance), immobility, posturing, rigidity, repetitive or unusual movements, excitement, echophenomena (repetition of speech or behavior), and ambitendency (being "stuck"). Conceptualized historically as a variant of schizophrenia, catatonia is now known to be precipitated by numerous medical and psychiatric conditions and is frequently misdiagnosed. Given catatonia's heterogeneous presentation and potentially fatal complications, learning to recognize catatonia proves critical to psychiatric care in the general medical setting. In this workshop, we will provide an overview of catatonia in its historical context, utilize cases to discuss the variability in its presentation, outline common exam findings, describe the medical and psychiatric work-up for the syndrome, and discuss management principles including pharmacologic treatment and electroconvulsive therapy. At the conclusion of this program participants should be able to: Describe the heterogeneous nature of catatonia and the considerable variability in presentation of the syndrome. Assess for the numerous associated signs and symptoms including neurological findings. Explain the different potential etiologies of catatonia including psychiatric and medical/neurological causes. Implement management principles for patients with catatonia using pharmacological agents, preventive measures for potential complications, and referral for electroconvulsive therapy when indicated. This training provides an overview of the evaluation and treatment of both adult and juvenile sexual offenders who are diagnosed with an intellectual disability, or who are co-morbidly diagnosed with an intellectual disability and mental health disorder. Throughout this training the participant will gather a firm understanding of how to effectively evaluate risk correlated with sexual offending behavior, as well as how to best treat and support the person through recovery. The training participant will gain a firm understanding of correct legal and clinical terminology used in treatment, as well as specific patterns that distinguish adult and juvenile offenders. At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to: Identify risk factor types for sexual offenders. Describe tools used to evaluate risk for both adult and juvenile offenders with IDD. Examine motivational factors or frequent causes of sexual offending behaviors. Identify common errors in evaluating risk and understanding key elements to community supervision. Examine treatment strategies used in treating sexual offending behaviors and how to develop treatment goals for the person being supported. This introductory program is directed toward clinicians, criminal justice system professionals, and other professionals from both the mental health and intellectual disabilities treatment fields who work with consumers with dual disorders. continuing education units (CEUs) which are equal to 2.0 contact hours.

The New Dilemmas in Ethics training has been developed to help counselors and supervisors gain skills to appropriately manage ethical dilemmas, which have been created as a result of technology and social media. This training will provide an overview of the use of technology and the ethical dilemmas associated with the use of technology. Topics will include the use of social media and social networking, dilemmas surrounding ing clients, conducting internet searches, and online consultations. At the conclusion of this program participants should be able to: Develop a framework and understanding related to ethical implications with regard to the use of technology in their work. Explore how professional ethical codes may be impacted though the use of technology. Summarize and demonstrate an understanding of legal issues and current legislation which both supports and negates technology as it relates to the field. This introductory program is directed toward clinicians and other professionals from both the mental health and substance abuse treatment fields who work with consumers with co-occurring disorders. 4 Overdose Prevention and Response Training Alice Bell, LCSW Overdose Prevention Project Coordinator Prevention Point Pittsburgh February 25, 2015 Course Code: T295 This program will provide an overview of the scope of overdose problems on local, state and national levels with a focus on opioid overdose. It will also offer an overview of strategies being implemented to address the problem. Instruction on training clients about risk, symptoms, and effective response to an opioid overdose, including specific information on peer administration of naloxone will be provided. Legal/medical information on how medical practitioners can prescribe naloxone for lay administration will be provided. At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to: Identify various strategies being implemented to reduce problem of fatal overdose and possible unintended consequences. Identify factors that increase risk of overdose, symptoms of an opioid overdose, and steps for effective response. Describe resources for information on prescribing naloxone and basic aspects of Pennsylvania law regarding naloxone prescription for potential witnesses to an overdose. This is an introductory program for all mental health and drug and alcohol professionals who work with individuals with co-occurring disorders. continuing education units (CEU's) which are equal to 2.0 contact hours.

This social change collaborative provides an educational model for addressing the following areas of need: Early and effective perinatal and infant care Early detection and intervention of domestic or intimate partner violence Recognition and prevention of child physical or sexual abuse, and neglect Recognition of the impact of trauma on children Prevention strategies to help reduce violence in the community and to keep families safe At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to: Develop a better understanding of available resources to help combat the victimization of women and children. Recount at least two preventative actions that can help keep women safe. Develop a better understanding of the lethality assessment tool. Recount at least three things to avoid during pregnancy. Recognize the importance of child safety and nurturing in homes and neighborhoods. An overview of the grief process and how the method of death will interfere in the normal grief process will also be reviewed. Also to be discussed will be what to address with a friend or a family member who has lost someone to suicide, and what you can do to aid in that person s recovery. At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to: Identify the grief process as it relates to suicide loss. Address suicide with all age groups. Discuss positive approaches to renew meaning and hope in life.
