For Business Strategy, the module is delivered by the Director of the Graduate Business School, Russell Williams, with the support of one of our Honorary Executive Faculty, Glenn Corr, Director, Maersk Oil Ltd. After providing an overview of some core strategy ideas and frameworks, the module quickly moves you to action-orientated learning. Working in teams, you will first take on the role of an Exploration and Production (E&P) Analyst working in a simulated oil and gas company. The company has an existing portfolio of assets, but has just received an opportunity to become a co-venturer in a new oil/gas prospect. As the E&P Analyst, your task will be to process all the information received, research out a little more information and make a recommendation to the Board. This will take the form of a presentation and short report, after which, you ll move on to another role. You re then tasked with thinking about and managing the strategic plan for the company s portfolio of assets reacting to change and revising your plan as events unfold. Finally, our real-world simulation immerses you in another key issue for the business partnering. The company has joint operating agreements for some of its assets. So you ll need to consider the resulting issues and think about a strategy to manage these often complex partner relationships. The aim of these realistic industry simulations is to give you an up close and personal insight into how many oil and gas companies operate and manage their businesses today. And hopefully a glimpse of how they ll do it tomorrow. To demonstrate your understanding of how oil and gas companies operate, we will then ask you to produce a short individual piece of work that will go into your assessment portfolio. Even full-time employees in the energy business don t usually enjoy the mentoring of a senior industry professional for a whole year. In 2003, following the acquisition of this business by Petrofac in December 2002, Leigh relocated to the United Arab Emirates to head Petrofac s group finance function. Following the successful IPO of Petrofac in 2005, Leigh returned to Aberdeen in 2006 taking up the role of Managing Director, Petrofac Training, a position he held until In 2010, Leigh joined EnQuest, where he assisted with the company s IPO to the London Stock Exchange.
