1 Mulberry: Plug-ins and Spell Checker Supplement Mulberry v1.3.3 now contains a spell checker. The spell checker is provided as a plugin and is installed during the default installation. A number of other plug-ins are also installed by default. You can choose to do a custom installation without the any plugin, or remove them after installation if you have no need for any one of them. Plug-ins In Mulberry v1.3.3, plug-ins reside in a Plug-ins folder which must have this exact name (including capitalization) and must be in the same folder as the Mulberry application which you are using. On application start-up, Mulberry will scan the Plugins folder for suitable plug-ins to use. Currently, Mulberry only supports the spell checker plug-in and address book import/export plug-ins. Future versions of Mulberry will include different types of plug-ins as well. You can get information about all known plug-ins by choosing the About Plug-ins menu item in the Help menu. This displays a dialog box showing each plug-in category (not all of which are ly used) with a list of plug-ins under each category that were found on application start-up. If you click on a plug-in in the list, details about the plug-in will be shown in the dialog. Note In future certain plug-ins will require separate registration from the main program because they will have to be purchased separately, or will have restricted use. None of the plug-ins provided with Mulberry v1.3.3 require registration. Spell Checker The spell checker plug-in in Mulberry is called Spellswell and uses the popular crossplatform spell check engine from Working Software Inc. User interface features were added by Cyrusoft to ensure a uniform look-and-feel with the rest of Mulberry. When installed, the spell check plug-in adds items to the bottom of the Edit menu: Edit Menu : Check Spelling This command is only active when a message or draft window is at the front. When the command is executed, the text in the message or draft window is spell

2 checked. If any text is selected, then only that text will be spell checked. If no text is selected, the entire text will be spell checked. If there are any incorrectly spelled words in the text being checked, the Mulberry will display the Spell Check dialog box: Misspelled word Word to use as replacement Name of dictionary List of words in dictionary, or list of best guess words First word in Last word in Number of page and total number of pages in the dictionary The dialog shows a scrolling list on the right hand side. This list is either a list of words which the spell checker has guessed, or a page from the dictionary (whose name is shown above the list). When showing a page from the dictionary, the first and last words in the page are shown immediately below the list, and a horizontal scroll is activated to allow scrolling between pages. You can switch the list between showing the best guess words or dictionary by clicking the Guesses or Dictionary radio buttons. To edit the dictionary, click the Edit button (see below for a description of the resulting dialog). To edit options related to spell checking, click the Options button (see below for a description of the resulting dialog). The Spell Check dialog shows the misspelled word and provides a space for entering the replacement word. The spell checker will attempt to fill this in with its best guess. You can override this either by typing in a word, or by clicking on a word in the word list.

3 To replace the misspelled word click the Replace button. This will replace only the occurrence of the misspelled word. To replace all occurrences of the misspelled word click the Replace All button. If you want to go on to the next spelling mistake without replacing the word, click the Skip button. To skip all occurrences of the word, click Skip All. To add the misspelled word to the dictionary, click the Add button. This will display the Spell Add dialog: The Spell Add dialog allows you to add a word and possible derivatives to the dictionary. The spell checker will fill in a list of possible derivatives which you can choose to add to the dictionary. To add any of the possible derivatives, turn on the checkbox next to it. You can also edit these words when the checkbox is turned on. If the word or words being added to the dictionary can only appear capitalized (e.g. if they are real names) then turn on the Must Capitalize button.

4 Edit Menu : Spelling Options The Spell Options dialog allows you to configure how spell checking will work. A word is uncapitalized following a period If turned on, the spell checker will report an error when a word does not start with a capital letter when it is preceded by a period and white space. Proper nouns are uncapitalized If turned on, the spell checker will report an error for any words that do not start with a capital letter but were marked as Must Capitalize when added to the dictionary (see Spell Add dialog above). Words appear to be repeated If turned on, the spell checker will report an error if it finds the same word repeated with only white space in between. There is only one space after a period If turned on, the spell checker will report an error if there is only one space after a period before the next word. In this case the spell checker is expecting two spaces between words.

5 There is a space before punctuation If turned on, the spell checker will report an error if there is white space before a punctuation mark. There are two spaces between words If turned on, the spell checker will report an error if there are two white space characters between words. Treat hyphenated words as two words If turned on, the spell checker will check hyphenated words as if they were separate words rather than one word. Allow both numbers and letters in words If turned on, the spell checker will not report errors for words that contain both numbers and letters. View suggestions instead of dictionary first If turned on, the spell checker will display the list of best guess suggestions in the Spell Check dialog as each error occurs. If turned off, the dictionary will be displayed at a page that is closest to the misspelled word. Automatically position dialog If turned on, the Spell Check dialog will be automatically positioned above the area of text being checked. If required, the text area will be shifted down to ensure that the dialog fits on screen. Always check spelling before sending If turned on, Mulberry will automatically execute a spell check when a draft is sent.

6 Edit Menu : Dictionary This contains two sub-menus: Choose This displays a standard file dialog that allows you to pick a dictionary to use for spell checking. The standard dictionary is installed into the Plug-ins folder and will be detected and set when the spell checker is first used. It is possible to get specialized dictionaries (as described on our website) for medical, legal and other applications etc. Edit This displays the Spell Edit dialog: Name of dictionary List of words in dictionary, or list of best guess words First word in Word to add or look for Last word in Number of page and total number of pages in the dictionary This dialog, like the Spell Check dialog, contains a word list that shows a page from the dictionary. To locate a word in the dictionary, type it into the New Word field and click the Find button. To add a word to the dictionary, type it into the New Word field and click the Add button. This will display the Spell Add dialog
