2 COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed to provide the latest diagnostic and treatment strategies for comprehensive wound management. The program is multidisciplinary with faculty representing various wound-related fields. Multiple educational formats will be used, including interactive workshops, hands-on demonstrations, educational sessions, and case presentations that offer comprehensive woundmanagement strategies (from basics to high-level). The conference will meet the continuing education needs of a range of wound care providers, from novices to experts. INTENDED AUDIENCE This conference is designed for physicians, CNPs, PAs, nurses, podiatrists, physical therapists, dietitians and others who manage skin and wound care patients across the continuum of health care. COURSE OBJECTIVES Identify the principles underlying the care of chronic wounds Describe systemic factors that may impair healing Describe specific diagnostic tests related to wound assessment Describe modalities used in wound management Identify patients at risk for developing pressure ulcers Describe interventions which can contribute to healing or prevention of neuropathic or pressure ulcers Discuss nutritional factors and the underline deficiencies that impact wound healing Describe specific treatment interventions for chronic wounds including debridement, topical therapies, and regenerative medicine. Discuss surgical revascularization, debridement and coverage to optimize limb salvage OPTIONAL HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS Debridement - $ Friday, February 19, 2016 (Limit 50) Saturday, February 20, 2016 (Limit 50) By Bill Richlen, PT, WCC, DWC; Infinitus, LLC This workshop will provide hands-on training of wound bed preparation using sharp debridement. Participants will be provided documentation of completion. Total Contact Casting - $50.00 Gold Standard in Off-Loading Friday, February 19, 2016 (Limit 20) The total contact cast is a casting technique that is used to off-load and heal neuropathic foot ulcers. This hands-on session will provide training in the application of these casts. OPTIONAL TOUR Tour of Hyperbaric and Altitude Medicine Facility (No additional fee) Thursday, February 18, 2016 (Limit 90) Conference participants will have the option to tour Mayo Clinic s Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber. DATE AND LOCATION The Mayo Wound Symposium 2016 will be held February 18-20, Course headquarters will be located in on the 2nd floor of the Siebens Medical Education Building, Mayo Clinic, 100 Second Avenue Southwest, Rochester, Minnesota. Meeting facilities are easily accessible by skyway and pedestrian subway, which connect Mayo Clinic to shops, restaurants, and hotels. CREDIT Mayo Clinic College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Mayo Clinic College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 18 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Mayo Continuing Nursing Education is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Participants can earn up to ANCC nursing contact hours for attendance at the entire conference. Other Health Care Professionals A certificate of attendance will be provided to other health care professionals for requesting credits in accordance with state nursing boards, specialty societies, or other professional associations.
