Th Holidays lights all hav com down & a lot of you hav gon south for a fw months. If you ar still hr or hav gon away for a whil do not forgt about your proprty hr in Kn-Wik. It is always a good ida to mak your hous look as though somon is staying thr. Put a timr on a light at your front door or possibly mak arrangmnts for a nighbor to tak your trash cans back from th strt. Kp in mind if you ar going to b gon for som tim anything that can b blown around by th wind should b put away. This is th tim of yar that proprty ownrs do rnovations to thir proprtis. If you hav plans to rnovat or build a nw hom, Kn-Wik on th Bay proprtis hav Dd Covnants that rquir approval from th Association. All plans for nw homs or rnovations to xisting homs must b submittd to Ed Brady. Ed s contact information can b found on th back of this nws lttr. It is important to know that th stbacks in our Dd Covnants of our Kn-Wik on th Bay proprtis ar not th sam stbacks of Sussx County. Contact Ed to discuss your plans and to gt th dtail on all stbacks. Your Board of Govrnors spnds your mony vry wisly ach yar which kps th dus at this low rat. W continu to mak improvmnts to th community & try to kp all proprty ownrs up to dat with what is happning in and around Kn-Wik. In 2012 th Board was abl to do many things for you th proprty ownrs. W had our scond Pig Roast which was a hug succss. W all got a bit wt with th downpours that cam that day but th rain did not hampr th fun and camaradri btwn nighbors. Th Annual Mmorial Day Yard Sal wknd and fr dumpstr us was anothr hug succss again in This busy wknd has bn going on hr for yars. Th amount of trash that is disposd of ach yar is unblivabl. I would hat to think of what would happn to all that trash if w could not continu to offr that srvic to our dus paying mmbrs. Th big dal this past yar was th Bradford Par Trs on Kn-Wik Road from Rout 54 to Cdar Road wr rmovd and rplacd by what will b bautiful Arapaho Crp Myrtls. This portion of th projct was compltd in mid Octobr bfor Hurrican Sandy hit us. I would hat to think what would hav happnd with th old brittl Bradford Par Trs during th Hurrican. In 2013 w hav budgtd to finish this projct by rmoving th rst of th trs on Knwick Road from Cdar Road to Hickory Road. Thy will also b rplacd with Arapaho Crp Myrtls. Hr in Kn-Wik w had a lot of flooding, trash to clan up, and damag to som of our homs and cars. During our clan up I could not hlp but think of th popl north of us that had lost vrything. My wif and I dcidd to hlp with a group of local familis that had contactd a church on Long Island that had 20 Familis that lost thir homs and all thir prsonal possssions. I snt out an -mail to th Kn- Wik Board and a fw Kn-Wik proprty ownrs about donations ndd for ths Familis. I could not bliv th amount of itms that all of you donatd and dlivrd to my hous. I wantd to prsonally thank all of you but I was not sur just who all th donations cam from. Som itms had bn lft on my front porch or nar my garag so I was not sur just who lft thm. I know all of you wr busy taking car of your own proprtis and Familis aftr th storm but you found th tim to hlp othrs as wll. Th group w workd with snt two truckloads of food, claning supplis, clothing, blankts, coats, kid s gams and toys, books, and much mor. Your donations that wnt to th church in Long Island and th Familis thr wr vry much apprciatd. Th donations from all of you wnt a long way. Thank you for taking th tim to car about othrs. W havn't bn abl to finish our plans to install a sidwalk and rplac th wall bcaus of drainag problms lingring in th walkway aftr th Rout 54 construction. Th contractor's initial ffort to corrct th drainag has not workd. DlDot is continuing to work on solutions and knows thy must find a way to gt rid of standing watr. W hav a contractor standing by to complt th front ntranc projct onc DlDot is sur that th drainag issu has bn rsolvd. This Club has bn in xistnc sinc th arly 90 s and is opn to all womn rsidnts in Kn-Wik on th Bay, Knwick Wst and Knwick Sound. W mt th first Wdnsday of th month from Sptmbr through Jun for lunch and fllowship. Th lunch is hld at various local rstaurants. Th By-Laws stat Th purpos of th club shall b to promot community srvic and for ducational advancmnt. Each yar w award scholarships to th Indian Rivr High School womn graduats. Th past fw yars w hav awardd $8,000 to $10,000 in scholarships. Th Club also collcts food for th two local food pantris, provids food crtificats at Thanksgiving, adopts familis at Christmas, provids school supplis, coats and othr clothing nds, hygin itms, taching aids, (such as hadsts) to th Philip Showll Elmntary, Slbyvill Middl School and Clayton Elmntary school. Svral of our mmbrs also do mntoring at ths schools. To provid th many nds in our community, w hav fundraisrs such as Chins Auctions and th mmbrs ar vry gnrous supporting an appal to hlp thos in our community whn a nd ariss. As you can s from th abov, th Womn s Club of th Knwicks is a vry activ and hardworking non-profit organization. And, w hav fun at th monthly mtings and tak sightsing trips and go to thatrs.
