Solution L2/L3 VPN, direct Internet access, virtual CPE, MEF2.0 compliant E-LINE, ELAN services network addressing portfolio, stateful firewall, IPsec, content caching and delivery Offers TDM to Ethernet/MPLS migration Established service solutions: Nextgeneration multicast VPNs, VPLS, IPv6 VPNs Innovative technology solutions: P2MP LSP, LDP-BGP VPLS interworking Edge Aggregation: Adopt to explosive growth in bandwidth with 10GE and 100GE to the edge and metro, facilitate DC consolidation Peering: Integrate inline network visibility services, offer L3 as well as L2 peering Benefits Drive rapid innovation through single network platform for ecosystem Add value by enabling service components via the network Consolidate subscribers and services onto single edge platform Reduce number of discrete network devices and locations Leverage common platform and provisioning model to deliver multiple services The edge is a strategic point in the network where service providers connect to their subscribers and apply services. The edge network has evolved to encompass various network types, including residential broadband, business edge and mobile broadband networks. Industry analysts suggest that IP traffic is expected to continue to grow strongly with mobile and fixed broadband and IP VPN traffic underlying that growth. It s predicted that consumer broadband and corporate data traffic continue to grow. IPTV and IP video traffic are expected to continue to accelerate traffic growth. Confluence of several of these demand drivers places unprecedented strains and requirements on today s networks. Service providers are pushing IP closer to the subscriber edge and looking to the latest generation of edge routers with capabilities for MPLS VPNs, deep packet inspection, and the ability to classify and police subscriber traffic. Service providers need to keep up with exponential traffic growth at a lower cost, while at the same time increasing revenue and achieving operational efficiency. Edge networks need to be made more efficient by converging services and network functionality, and evolving network architectures. Services for consumer and business, wireline and wireless need to be merged onto common IP infrastructures to reduce redundant network elements, improve traffic flow and reduce costs. Service providers need a revolutionary approach to address these growing demands through a transformational business edge solution. This demands a new network, one that offers superior economics and enables rather than constrains faster service innovation. Drivers of the business edge Demands New Breed of Solution Massive network growth and bandwidth demand Evolving customer needs Need for open and programmable network platform Demands New Economics Need for lower TCO Need for operational efficiency to contain OpEx Need for better monetization of network assets to increase revenue Demands Faster Service Innovation Deteriorating ARPU Need for business model innovation Need for differentiated service offering 1

Juniper s comprehensive solution set enables service providers, large enterprises, telcos, cable companies and informationintensive enterprises to cost-efficiently roll out networks that offer scalable control and forwarding planes, continuous service and feature richness. VPN deployments using Juniper technology are standards-based and securely interwork amongst multiple providers, enabling you to exceed the most stringent servicelevel agreements (SLAs) and resiliency requirements. Common protocols offer a consistent, streamlined operational model, thus reducing overall operating and troubleshooting costs. VPNs provide numerous services within a variety of delivery models. This wide deployment of VPN services requires the availability of multiple access connectivity options, service reach across protocol and administrative domain boundaries, and support for multiple topologies and traffic profiles. Drivers include consolidations (mergers and acquisitions), interprovider partnerships, and changing end-user requirements based on available access connectivity and protocol options. To meet these dynamic needs, Juniper has created a comprehensive and flexible MPLS VPN toolkit that offers an array of options across multiple parameters. Flexible access connectivity options across multiple topologies, protocol and administrative boundaries (Table 1) Scalable control and forwarding planes Maximized bandwidth and network efficiency for multicast with P2MP optimizations for VPLS and multicast VPN Self-contained multihoming mechanisms for highly available edge service nodes Consistent operational model for IPv4, IPv6, unicast and multicast across L2 and L3 VPNs Simplified operations with reduced template-based configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting complexity Cost-efficient rollouts with minimal network disruption Interdomain Carrier-of-Carriers L2.5 Interworking Multicast Legacy IP VPLS MPLS Any L1/L2 IP Sec Multi-Access L2 VPN access to L3 VPN different signaling (LDP, BGP) infrastructure Multidomain Figure 4: Multi-access, multiprotocol, multidomain MPLS VPN solutions 4

Juniper Business Virtual/Cloud CPE enables service providers enterprise customers to offload complex monitoring, Layer 3 routing intelligence, statefull firewall, CG-NAT and multicast functionalities from their onsite premises and onto the service provider s Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers. For providers, this opens up new managed services revenue opportunities while reducing the operational overhead from additional onsite technician support. For customers, it reduces the complexity and cost of managing additional onsite equipment. The adoption of the virtual CPE (vcpe) offers a number of benefits: Operational simplification of service delivery and service assurance (fewer devices to deploy and maintain) Reduced CapEx and OpEx per service (no on-premises IP router; reduced complexity in the service chain) Faster innovation, as services can be introduced more quickly and do not depend on physical changes or customer site visits Juniper Networks JunosV App Engine with the MX Series router is the first hypervisor for the edge. Service providers can drag and drop existing applications such as load balancing, security services, online gaming and advertising as well as simultaneously operate applications from any vendor to help them drive new streams of revenue quickly. MX Series Virtual Chassis virtualizes business edge services over multiple MX Series routers, allowing service providers to operate the systems as a single chassis and quickly add new subscribers. Benefits include faster time to provision services, higher resiliency, and increased performance and scale. JunosV Firefly enables service providers to quickly deploy new virtualized managed services, such as virtualized security with additional services in the future, and increase their top-line revenue. Service providers who are hosting these services for their customers can ensure that traffic for each customer is completely isolated and secure from other users within the cloud. Junos Node Unifier combines MX Series routers and Juniper top-of rack switches into a single virtualized element to simplify management of multiple nodes. This innovation enables service providers to streamline operations and ultimately reduce operational expenditures. Juniper Networks Junos Space is a comprehensive network management solution that simplifies and automates management of the Universal Edge. It is also a critical component of Juniper s SDN strategy that provides a centralized management plane for a single point of contact into the network and a common platform for managing and creating customized management applications. Junos Space consists of a network management platform for element management, plug-and-play management applications for specific OAM services quickly, and a programmable SDK for network customization. Each of these components works together to deliver a unified network management and orchestration solution to help you more efficiently manage your network. Network Optimization Services are provided through an array of advanced carrier-grade applications from security to traffic load balancing that converge directly on the MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers, enabling network operators to effectively reduce the number of single-purpose devices that are expensive to operate and difficult to scale. The result simplifies network management and reduces infrastructure maintenance costs. This in turn enables rapid provisioning of new revenue-generating services and reduces customer churn. Path Computation Element (PCE) on the MX Series brings programmable properties into the network so that IT managers can find the most efficient paths to optimize on-demand bandwidth requirements. Juniper Rapid Assessment is a suite of services to enable simplified integration and testing with operating and business support systems (OSS/BSS), traffic migration, network security and virtual application development.
