2 Target Audience MR IMAGING: Radiologists, Physiatrists and Orthopaedists seeking to improve their skills in utilizing MR and ultrasound, and interpreting images. MANAGEMENT: Physiatrists, Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Internists, Orthopaedists and Sports Practitioners interested in updating their skills in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. Course Description This course focuses on advances in Sports Medicine and is designed for multidisciplinary learning. During two days there are separate, parallel tracks allowing registrants to focus on either Imaging or Management topics. On the third day, Imaging and Management lectures are integrated for all registrants. The half-day hands-on Ultrasound workshop is limited to a small number of registrants. The Imaging track focuses on MRI diagnosis in athletic injuries. Although basic principles, protocols and anatomy are covered, there is emphasis on advanced interpretation and current concepts. The Management track focuses on current concepts in the approach to patients with exercise-related symptoms and athletic trauma. Everyday practice situations and decision-making are covered. Attendees are invited to go back and forth between the educational tracks. The Ultrasound symposium teaches scanning through hands-on participation. Sports Medicine continues to evolve rapidly, developing new treatment algorithms and involve a larger scope of physician and non-physician practitioners. All of these cause a lag in knowledge, competence and performance among community caregivers. One practice gap exists because of the experience and expertise required to interpret images and make decisions regarding operative versus conservative management. Another practice gap exists because these different practitioners have limited direct interaction, and should better understand the others roles, capabilities and limitations. Didactic lectures, panel discussions, Q&A, demonstrations and expert sessions will be used to convey current developments in Sports Medicine, roles of multidisciplinary specialists, latest imaging and management practices in athletic injuries, and correlation of imaging with operative findings. Hands-on skills stations will be used to teach sonographic techniques. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: ü Understand current developments in Sports Medicine ü Integrate multidisciplinary specialists in sports injuries ü Improve management practices in athletes ü Apply advanced MR techniques in athletic injuries ü Correlate imaging findings with operative treatments ü Utilize minimally invasive treatments and sonography Accreditation The Harvard Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Harvard Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada recognizes conferences and workshops held outside of Canada that are developed by a university, academy, hospital, specialty society or college as accredited group learning activities. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits claimed by physicians attending live events certified and organized in the United States for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits can be claimed through the agreement on mutual recognition of credits between UEMS and AMA, considered as being equal to the European Continuous Medical Education Credits (ECMEC ) granted by the UEMS. One AMA PRA Category 1 Credits is equivalent to one (1) hour of European EACCME Credit (ECMEC ), therefore up to ECMEC Credits are available. Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. MGH is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers.
