8 Primary Planning Assumptions Primary Assumption: B&F will support the UM activities to best of our ability and will not be the reason the UM is forced to shut down operations! B&F will protect staff to the best of our ability people are the primary resource that will be impacted!
9 Planning Assumptions (cont.) UM Priorities Health and safety of faculty, staff, students, hospital patients, contractors, renters, and any other people on University premises. Delivery of health care and hospital patient services: admissions, diagnostic tests, outpatient appointments, surgery & other procedures, patient records availability, etc. Continuation and maintenance of research specimens, animals, biomedical specimens, research archives. Delivery of teaching/learning process and student-related services: registration, faculty assignments, classroom scheduling, drop/add, financial aid services, government reports, grades, admissions, housing, etc. Security and preservation of University facilities and equipment. Maintenance of support for community/university partnerships.
10 Planning Assumptions (cont.) Pandemic wave could last for 8-12 weeks Pandemic could occur in several waves, several months apart Assume up to 40% absentee rate for staffing
11 The Process Each unit developed a business continuity plan based on internal priorities currently 38 unit plans Working Draft Plans! These will evolve as scenario becomes clearer Attempt to key actions to University developed color code scheme Plans need to be self actuating expect general UM direction only
12 University Color Codes Green worldwide watch Yellow efficient human-human transmission Orange human-human infection w/in Great Lakes Region Red full pandemic Blue recovery phase
13 What is in the Plans? Unit identified key command staff Unit identified priority actions to support UM mission and protect staff Unit key vendors, supplies, and travel needs Unit internal and external communication plans Set of unit assumptions and action items necessary to make plans work
14 Next Steps Units continue to complete action items Plans need to be made compatible with color coding system Unit assumptions need to be tested for validity Continue to update plans as details change Train all staff in unit on the plans, implementation, and expectations during emergency actions!
15 Next Steps (cont.) Plans submitted to date are working draft as close to complete plans due to IHPG by Jan 07 Expect testing of various parts of plans through next spring Statewide exercise May 07 to test preparedness
