1 Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship Volunteer Application EmpowHer Institute has partnered with Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) to combine efforts in teaching, inspiring and developing young teens to take charge of their futures! The goal is to help students develop the ability to not only survive but thrive within the world today. By equipping students with the necessary Life Skills, Education and Leadership, Financial Awareness and Decision-Making to face challenges head on, EmpowHer and NFTE create a safe space for growth within all of these areas. Through entrepreneurship education, NFTE/EmpowHer helps young people from low-income communities think like entrepreneurs so that they can take control of their own futures. College students and professionals from the business community play a critical role in all of NFTE/EmpowHer s programs. The expertise and mentoring of volunteers provide meaningful experiences and advice to youth. By incorporating volunteers into the classroom, the students are better able to connect the material to real life. 2 INTEREST: The following is a list of opportunities for business students/executives and other industry professionals to get involved with our youth: MENTOR Each of the EmpowHer students will be working through curriculum to gain a skill set that will empower her to value and use her voice to take charge of her future. She will be given the ability to explore, learn and grow within a safe space. She will be empowered to know that she has everything within herself to succeed. Mentors will help to encourage and support the young women in developing in the following areas: Self Esteem, Interpersonal Communication, Financial Awareness, Education and Leadership and Learning to Face Decisions and Challenges Head On. Time Commitment: Variable (4-8 sessions for 1-2 hours each is ideal) BUSINESS PLAN COACH Each of the NFTE students will be working towards completing a business plan in PowerPoint form. Business Plan Coaches help students conceptualize successful ideas, coach them on how to improve problem areas, and prepare them to present their plans to potential investors. Time Commitment: Variable (3 sessions for 1-2 hours each is ideal) GUEST SPEAKER While learning the NFTE and EmpowHer curriculums, students may understand the concept but not necessarily its relevance to the real world. Volunteers can present a lesson within their area of expertise to add a new dimension to their learning. Guest speaker topics can include goal setting, organization/time management, business etiquette, marketing/advertising, investing/banking, business plans, sales, customer service, technology, communication skills, etc. We also encourage volunteers to feel free to discuss their career paths, as well as professional challenges they have faced. Time Commitment: Ranges from 1-2 hours per speaking engagement FIELD TRIP HOST One of the best ways to expose youth to business and social concepts is to take them to businesses where they can meet a variety of staff members in various departments, such as finance, human resources, marketing, and sales. Class visits can be to the volunteer s company or to the business of a local entrepreneur. This is a terrific opportunity for youth to learn about different professions as well as the challenges and rewards of the workplace. Time Commitment: Each visit lasts approximately 2-3 hours COMPETITION JUDGE The culminating event of every NFTE program is the business plan competition in which students compete for seed capital by presenting their business plans to a panel of judges (volunteers). Judges observe and question the participants and then rate each on a scale from 1-10 in various categories. Business plan judges are needed for individual classroom competitions as well as the Regional Business Plan Competition. I understand that this media will be accessible throughout the world and that stories, including my information and/or image, may appear in written, video, electronic and other forms. I understand that information I provide, including my name, photograph and information about my EmpowHer and/or NFTE activities may be used by EmpowHer and/or NFTE and its partners to promote EmpowHer and NFTE and life skills and entrepreneurship education generally. I release and hold harmless EmpowHer, NFTE and each of their agents and employees from any claims of infringement, invasion of privacy, defamation or misappropriation arising from the use of the information for the purposes provided herein. VOLUNTEER CONDUCT POLICY This Volunteer Conduct Policy was developed in order to further our mission and provide a safe and professional learning environment for the volunteers, EmpowHer/NFTE participants, and EmpowHer/NFTE staff. Please carefully read and sign. Your application will not be processed without your signature. Conduct Policy: 1. In performing services hereunder, you shall be a volunteer of EmpowHer and NFTE. You shall not be deemed to be a consultant, agent, partner, employee or representative of EmpowHer or NFTE, and you shall not be entitled to any of the benefits afforded to EmpowHer or NFTE employees as a result of this Policy and Standards Form. 2. You shall not have any authority to assume or create any obligation on behalf of EmpowHer or NFTE and shall not have the authority to represent yourself as an employee or agent of EmpowHer or NFTE. 3. Any materials, products, memoranda, reports, data, or other work products produced by you in connection with your services as an EmpowHer and/or NFTE Volunteer shall be the property of EmpowHer and NFTE. You, as an EmpowHer and/or NFTE Volunteer, shall have no rights to the use of the same except in connection with the performance of your services as an EmpowHer and/or NFTE Volunteer. 4. You agree that you will not, during your service as an EmpowHer and/or NFTE Volunteer or thereafter, knowingly disclose, disseminate, publish, reveal or otherwise communicate to any unauthorized person any confidential information owned by EmpowHer and/or NFTE without the prior written consent of EmpowHer and NFTE, unless such disclosure is required by law. 5. In performing any services as an EmpowHer and/or NFTE Volunteer, you shall abide by the following guidelines: a. You must be at least 18 years of age. b. You represent that you have never been convicted of a felony or any offense involving moral turpitude and you consent to having NFTE perform, at NFTE s cost, a background check on you as deemed necessary by NFTE. c. You agree that you will not meet alone with any EmpowHer or NFTE student or EmpowHer or NFTE graduate who is under the age of 18 while providing services as an EmpowHer and/or NFTE Volunteer.

4 d. You agree not to meet with any EmpowHer or NFTE student without parental permission and EmpowHer and/or NFTE staff approval. e. You agree not to transport EmpowHer or NFTE students or alumni under the age of 18 in any vehicle. f. EmpowHer and NFTE are dedicated to providing a learning environment that is free from unlawful harassment, whether that harassment is premised on sex, race, sexual orientation, national origin, religion or any other legally protected basis. Examples of prohibited conduct include, without limitation: i. Abusing a person s dignity, interfering with a person s ability to learn as an EmpowHer or NFTE student or graduate, or creating an offensive work and/or learning environment through insulting or degrading remarks, displays of sexually suggestive or otherwise offensive symbols, pictures or objects, or similar conduct related to a legally protected basis, including sex, race or sexual orientation. ii. iii. iv. Inappropriate physical touching. Any threat or suggestion that a person s advancement, evaluation, assignment or compensation is contingent upon his/her tolerance of prohibited conduct. Any threat of, or actual, retaliation against any person for reporting or filing claims of unlawful harassment. Any volunteer failing to adhere to volunteer conduct policy will, at NFTE s and/or EmpowHer s sole discretion, be prohibited from serving as an EmpowHer or NFTE Volunteer.
