3 Roadmap Development Funding Source U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMTech) Consortia Program launched in 2013 to: Create industry-led, shared-vision technology roadmaps for the development of technologies underpinning transformational innovations Identify and prioritize research projects supporting longterm industrial research needs

4 EWI AMTech Project EWI awarded funding in June 2014 to develop an Advanced Joining and Forming Technology Roadmap Objective: First comprehensive analysis of U.S. materials joining and forming technology challenges, technology priorities, and highimpact R&D investment areas

7 Background & Objectives The AMTech Advanced Joining and Forming Technology Roadmap will be the first comprehensive analysis of U.S. materials joining and forming challenges, technology priorities, and high-impact R&D opportunities. EWI will organize a Steering Committee of materials joining and forming experts, coordinate committee deliberations, facilitate targeted focus group activities, conduct industry surveys, organize 2 national conferences and lead the roadmap document development. Steering Committee will advise and assist EWI in all activities Page 3

8 Scope of Activities 1. Review of past materials joining and forming industry reports and relevant technical work going on around the world. 2. Hold a national conference to kick off roadmap effort. 3. Conduct a series of 12 Industry focus group exercises (i.e., combinations of industry sectors, technology focus areas and geographies) to capture and rank technology needs. 4. Conduct electronic industry surveys to validate findings with broader range of industry. 5. Conduct interviews to collect detailed technical information with particular industry sectors. Page 4
