1 Goals of Sister Cities International Develop municipal partnerships between U.S. cities, and similar jurisdictions in other nations Provide opportunities for city officials and citizens to explore other cultures through Long Term community partnerships Create an atmosphere in which economic and community development can be implemented and strengthened Purpose of MLBSCA To Stimulate environments through which communities will creatively learn, work and solve problems together through reciprocal cultural, educational, municipal, business, professional and technical exchanges and projects. To Collaborate with organizations in the United States and other countries with similar goals. By Performing activities which are charitable, educational and not for profit, in accordance with the meaning of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of Via Supporting and maintaining ties with sister organizations, civic and trade organizations, Universities and schools, Ports, local museums, public and private institutions, that are mutually compatible between the two cities CI TEZEN DIPLOMATS

2 In April 2007 an extraordinary conversation began between representatives of two different civilizations, from which developed a compelling proposition. The two cities, of Long beach California, and Mombasa Kenya, were in so many ways, so well matched to be potentially natural adoptive sisters The two cities in their historic roles; as gateway cities for trade, are multi-cultural, multiethnic, multi-religious, socio-economically diverse, havens within their respective countries, with very well matched institutional pairings and population sizes. When observed closely, it becomes obvious they are the future of the world. Donation of ORASURE HIV quick testing Kits MLBSCA was excited to participate along with internationally recognized Aids Health Care foundation in conducting a free AIDS Treatment Clinic in Mombasa, a first in Kenya for them. MLBSCA supplied books to the Kenya national Library Service that were donated by School children throughout Long Beach, with hand written notes of encouragement to their compatriots. To date more than 600 books have been donated MLBSCA is a sponsor of the Likoni Aids orphanage, CITEZEN DIPLOMATS

4 Our organization is dedicated to Raising the public knowledge level and understanding of the Economic, Social, and cultural opportunities, that a sister cities relationship fosters. Founding Chairmen Bill Preston, promoting the MLBSCA programs in Kenya to representatives of Kenya s Media after a delegation visit with the Mayor of Mombasa and other Civic leaders. Current Chairman Ahmed Carl Saafir, hosting a Long Beach Community television show, whereby he interviewed the Hon. Nyambura Kamau, Consular general of Kenya, to probe and examine the opportunities for citizens of Mombasa and Long Beach, to learn from each other. CI T E Z E N DI P L O M AT S

5 The MLBSCA proudly represented Mombasa, and Kenya whilst marching in the Martin Luther King Parade. Members children in attendance held up a banner promoting our organization and greeting parade watches with Jumbo from Kenya!!! The MLBSCA host an exciting Election night party to celebrate the historic election of the first African American president of the U.S. Notably members of the Long beach political establishment were in attendance as well as members of the community MLBSCA participates in Local Community activities in Long Beach, supporting it s fellow Long Beach sister cities associations, as well as being active in promoting civic participation CI TEZEN DIPLOMATS

6 MLBSCA ensured the entrainment of the delegates to the 2008 Southern California Sister Cities annual conference hosted by Long Beach. A fashion show of African dress and a drum troop held the delegates enthralled. Our organization is dedicated to Fostering friendship between, and, understanding of, the cultures of East Africa and the history of the Long Beach community. MLBSCA delegates MLBSCA brought to Long Beach the first descend Annual slice of Kenya, which saw a large into the turnout from the Kenyan and Long Beach infamous community for this exploration of Kenyan Fort Jesus cuisine and hospitality. we are aiming for slave pen this year s event to grow into a fun summer fixture of Long Beach CI T E Z E N DI P L O M AT S

7 Linking Private and public Institutions to foster mutually beneficial economic ties The MLBSCA welcomes the Kenyan Minister for Tourism, Hon. Najib Balala along with the KTB to Long Beach Former Business development at- at luncheon at the light host, Long Beach Marina taché to the city of Long Beach conducted a Presentation on Doing Business in Long Beach to the Kenyan business community. A MLBSCA delegation made a presentation to the port of Mombasa from the Port of Long Beach CI TEZEN DIPLOMATS

We sincerely believe that the Mombasa Long Beach Sister Cities Program bridging these two great trading hubs, culturally diverse, forward leaning societies, amplifying effect of merging the efforts of public and private, civic and individual, institutions, creating a powerful combination of localized resources with international reach and activism to facedown the challenges of separatism and atomization that threaten our children, enabling a future world that reflects the best of Long beach and Mombasa as beacons of mutual prosperity, mutual accommodation and mutual respect, in a world of diversity.
