SURVEY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS QUESTION: When the Ph.D. program receives CACREP accreditation, will the Counselor Education & Supervision DCP be considered a CACREP degree? ANSWER: First, we do not know for sure if and when CACREP accreditation will occur. However, to have the opportunity to graduate from the CES degree, all students must transfer between July 15 and December 15 and fulfill all of the new program requirements. For questions about transferring to the new CES program of this contact your advisor at

SURVEY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS QUESTION: Can fall through classes from old DCP be considered as possible to meet a new class requirement? Ex. CBT and Psychopharmacology classes were full of studying and synthesizing numerous empirical treatments (CBT, DBT, Psychopharm, Exposure, much more)... can an argument be made for credit for Empirical Treatment for Adults if CBT/PsychoPharm were taken already? ANSWER: Yes, specialization courses (only) may transfer in: For an evaluation of this contact your advisor at

SURVEY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS QUESTION: I have completed the course work for my current degree, and taken comps. If I were to change programs, will the classes be offered often enough to complete the extra requirements within a year? ANSWER: All core courses are offered at least yearly. Additionally, albeit all core courses must be taken, the specialization courses you have taken may be able to transfer. Contact your advisor at to get specific advising about this.

SURVEY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS QUESTION: Since both concentrations are extremely beneficial in preparing for teaching/research, what are some of the limitations, if any, to switching to the CES program? Many times, just having a PhD enables one to have opportunities in a higher learning institution, however, it seems to me that the clinical concentration would provide a greater foundation in the subject matter while the CES may provide a "how to approach" in the educational setting. Thank you for your feedback. I will be watching the upcoming webinar. ANSWER: The specialization in the new program is Advanced Clinical Skills, so clinical excellence is still a strong focus in the program. The counselor education and supervision training expands the versatility of the degree.

SURVEY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS QUESTION: If you have courses complete, do they count toward the 7 years to complete or does it start at the beginning of the cohort? Is the Qualifying Exam only encompassing COUC 715, 730, 740? There seems to be some conflict in different places where it states it is only those three courses, but in others it still lists 745. ANSWER: After your Ph.D. advisor reviews your degree completion plan, have him or her consult with me about the time delimitation, if more time is needed to complete the new degree. I apologize for the confusion about the pre-qe required courses. The DCP note still says all four courses but 715, 730 and 740 are sufficient to take prior to the exam.

SURVEY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS QUESTION: There are 3 pre-reqs for the new program that do not match up with the pre-reqs from my previous program...specifically COUN 500 (ethical and legal issues), COUN 504 (multicultural counseling), and COUN 522 (career development and counseling). I am already taking doctoral-level courses...do I have to go back and take these pre-reqs? What are the prerequisites? ANSWER: Yes, you would have to take these courses if you transfer to the new program. However this may not be the case with some of the other ones. If you are not sure, contact your Ph.D. Advisor at

SURVEY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS QUESTION: I am already registered for COUC 745 this fall (my final course before the Qualifying Exam). Since the new program requires students to take the Qualifying Exam after COUC 715, 730, & 740 and before 745, should I withdraw from COUC 745 or may I stay in this course and take the QE during the same semester (before the course)? ANSWER: You may take this course before the QE but you do not have to.
