Look around and find the large sign that says University of California. We re one of many public school campuses in California.

Try to count as many as you can while you walk around. This is the biggest building on the campus. Go inside and find the dinosaur.

2 1) Entrance to Campus 2) Valley Life Sciences Building Welcome to UC Berkeley! Right now, you are standing at the official entrance to the campus. Look around and find the large sign that says University of California. We re one of many public school campuses in California. That means we have lots of students on campus. Do you know what else we have lots of? Squirrels! Try to count as many as you can while you walk around. This is the biggest building on the campus. Go inside and find the dinosaur. His name is Osborn. What kind of dinosaur is he? (see bottom of page for answer). Now turn around and walk to the doors behind you. What do you see when you look in? Those huge balls to the right are actually seeds! Look at some of the other stuff in the hallways. Do you see anything interesting?

Do you know what else we have lots of? Squirrels! Try to count as many as you can while you walk around. This is the biggest building on the campus. Go inside and find the dinosaur.

How many of you like to read? Well, our campus has more the twenty different libraries! This is our main library, named Doe library. Look above the door. That s Athena.

Look through the doors to your right (but don t go inside). That s the Morrison Reading Room. Some people say it s the quietest room in the world.

Because she is the Greek goddess of wisdom, she was placed above the library entrance to remind students how important learning is. Now walk under Athena into the library. Look through the doors to your right (but don t go inside). That s the Morrison Reading Room. Some people say it s the quietest room in the world. 4) Doe Library Doe Library 10) South Hall This is our oldest building. Some people say it looks like a haunted house. It was built in That is over 100 years ago! There is a special game for you to play with this building. Our campus mascot is the Golden Bear. His name is Oski. Somewhere on this building is a teeny version of Oski. Can you find him? (Hint: Look at the balcony. If you give up, see the bottom of the page for the answer)

4 How many of you have ever played basketball? What about volleyball? Well, Haas Pavilion is one of our sports stadiums. Go inside the main doors and look at all the display cases. Do you recognize any names? Which one is your favorite sport? This is the busiest part of campus. Thousands of people walk here every day. This part is called Upper Sproul. Look at the fountain. They are pretty strange, huh? 14) Haas Pavilion 12) Sproul Plaza 11) Sather Gate 13) Lower Sproul Plaza This is the lower half of Sproul Plaza. Look at the building with all the signs in the windows. That s where our student groups are located. Can you guess how many clubs we have? (see (b) at bottom for answer) Now find the golden bear. He s the spirit symbol of our campus. Go Bears!

This building is where the principal of our school, called the chancellor, has his offices. In 1964, the Free Speech Movement began here.

Students used to tie the doors shut when they protested against the chancellor. To stop them from doing that, he took them off completely!

At the top, there are 61 bells. They make a very loud noise that says gong! every hour. If you re lucky, you can hear them being played. Now go to the entrance. Look up at the ceiling.

Look at all the beautiful trees. Lots 9) Faculty Glade of those are redwood trees. Now look at the hill. That s called 4.0 Hill.

Students protested against the Chancellor for not letting them talk about what they wanted. Look at the doors. What s missing? That s right, the door handles! To stop them from doing that, he took them off completely! 3) California Hall This is the most famous building on our campus. Most students just call it the Campanile which means bell tower. This tower is 307 feet tall! At the top, there are 61 bells. They make a very loud noise that says gong! every hour. If you re lucky, you can hear them being played. Now go to the entrance. Look up at the ceiling. That s our campus motto FIAT LUX, which means Let there be light. But something s wrong with it. Can you tell what? (see (a) at bottom for answer) 5) Sather Tower This is Faculty Glade. Look at all the beautiful trees. Lots 9) Faculty Glade of those are redwood trees. Now look at the hill. That s called 4.0 Hill. Students say that if you roll down it, you ll get good grades. Go try it out! Now find the statue of the kneeling man. What s his name? (see (b) at bottom for answer). He was one of our great football coaches. Look at the paper in his hand. Those are scores from the Big Game. That s our rivalry game with Stanford. Which school has won more games? (see (c) at bottom for answer)

So to fit them all, we have some big classrooms, like Pimentel Hall.

It s usually pretty loud and lots of fun! Some people say that Bowles Hall looks like a castle.

We love to do all sorts of fun, spirited things during games. One of those is cards stunts.

6 How many students go to your school? Well, here we have almost 34,000! That s a lot of people, and they all have to take classes. So to fit them all, we have some big classrooms, like Pimentel Hall. If you promise to be very quiet, you can go peek inside. How many seats do think there are? (see bottom for answer) 6) Pimentel Hall 7) Bowles Hall This is our oldest dormitory. A dorm is where students live. They share rooms, bathrooms, and cafeterias with other students. It s usually pretty loud and lots of fun! Some people say that Bowles Hall looks like a castle. What do you think? Would you like to live there? 8) Memorial Stadium This is our football stadium. We love to do all sorts of fun, spirited things during games. One of those is cards stunts. That s when everyone in the student section holds up different colored cards and spells out something. And the students also like to yell as loud as they can to scare the other team. We re like an angry bear. Can you find the big bear statue outside the stadium?
