B ruflswlc Nouveau~ Februruy 28, 26 The Honourable Bruce Fitch Minister of Justice and Consumer Affairs Province ofnew Brunswick Dear Minister: I am pleased to submit the Sixty-eighth Annual Report of the Superintendent of Insurance for the insurance companies' business year 24 and for the Superintendent's fiscal year ending March 31, 25. This year's Superintendent's Annual Report is presented in a new format. Every insurer who has filed an Annual Return, even insurers who do not sell every class of insurance> has been included in each of the individual "class of insurance" repor1s. Also when the premium section has a value of SO and the claims incurred value shown in brackets is less than SO, the loss ratio will read * and where the claims incurred shows a value greater than $, it will read **. Total premiums for all classes of insurance, paid by policyholders in the business year 24 were $1,772,863,682 ru1 increase of 4.81% over the previous year. Total claims and benefits paid to consumers were $1,93,682,79 which represents 61.69% of premiums paid. With premiums of $874,834,682 on property and casualty business, losses paid in 24 were $384,19,513 or a loss ratio of 43.91% as compared to 6.22% in 23. Automobile insurance loss ratio in 24 was 45.2%, compared to 72.16% in 23. In relation to auto insurance, risk placed with the Facility Association (market of last resort) decreased. Premiums to the Facility Association in 24 were $4,83,815, a decrease of 41.5% over 23. In 24, insurance on the person (life and health) gross premium volume increased to $79,379,, an increase of 9.71 %. Claims and benefits paid (not including annuities) were $532,678,, which is 67.4% of premiums paid. On revenue, premium taxes are collected from premium income on the basis of 2% for life companies and 3% for other than life compan.ies. Premium income is determined by gross premiums less dividends paid and/or returned premimns. The amount received for was $37,91,149. The Fire Marshal's Tax, levied on all fire premiums collected by insurers during 24-25, was $1,95,988. The rate is 1% of premiums and is collected on behalf of the Department of Public Safety. In addition, the Branch collected $25,156,644 from automobile insurers on behalf of the Department of Health and Wellness. This initiative reflects the recovety ofhealth care costs due to motor vehicle accidents.
