5 Terms for Prediction REACH: Dream school where admission is highly selective and admit rates are low. High GPA & standardized test scores do not necessarily guarantee admission. TARGET: Student is within the range of possibility, but depending on the applicant pool, they may/may not be admitted.

6 Terms for Prediction HIGHLY LIKELY: Chances for admissions are very strong In Naviance, the student s profile is in a sea of green and are above all of the institutional averages. FINANCIAL/PROXIMITY SCHOOL: A place that students/parents can afford. A place where a student can get home in a day s drive.

7 Where to Apply? Final List should include a combination of: reach schools target schools highly likely schools financial & proximity school(s) ALL OF WHICH YOU WILL BE HAPPY TO ATTEND

8 Admissions Options Regular Decision Apply by a specific date and receive decision in spring (non binding) Rolling Admissions Review applications when submitted and receive a decision in usually 2 8 weeks (non binding) Priority Deadline Apply by a specific date and receive decision in 4 8 weeks. Gives student an advantage when space is limited (nonbinding)

9 Admissions Options Early Action apply early and receive decision well in advance of regular decision (non binding) Early Decision apply with a commitment to school, if admitted, must attend. (binding) Restrictive Early Action apply to school of preference and receive a decision early. Not allowed to apply ED, Restrictive EA or EA to other institutions. Have until May 1 to confirm (nonbinding)

11 ESSAYS Common Application Essays are up and online Utilize English teachers they are a great resource Utilize the Writer s Block to get started or have your essay reviewed by peer coaches and instructors

14 Test Scores Students responsibility to send scores through ACT or College Board Students are encouraged to request to have scores sent soon. It can take 2 weeks for scores to be received. Do not pay to rush scores. If taking an ACT in October, consider sending one score now if current score falls within the college s published range. In some cases applications will not be reviewed until a score is received.

16 Counselor Recommendation Questionnaire for School/Counselor Recommendation required if a letter is needed Optional Parent Questionnaire extremely helpful (available in your folder/online at EHS Counseling website) Recommendation will be uploaded to Naviance account and sent to all schools requested by student Outside recommendations (non EHS) sent directly by recommender (addressed/stamped envelopes)

21 Naviance Add colleges of interest to My Colleges Determine chances for admission by examining stats from the past 5 years. Provides dates and times of college visits Provides e mail reminders of visits Track application/s

22 College Rep Visits/Career Center Dates and times of college visits are listed in Naviance, Counseling Website and in ALL classrooms Students must sign up and receive a pass from their teacher of the hour of the visit prior to that day. Students must clear class absences with teacher prior to visit exercise good judgment when missing class.

23 University of Minnesota Visiting EHS on Wednesday, September 15 th at 10:30 am in the Community Room Applications available NOW Priority deadline is December 15, 2015 Applying before this time gives a student an advantage when space is limited Most students will receive a decision by March 15, 2016

24 University of Wisconsin-Madison Applications available now online Priority deadline is Nov. 1 and Feb 1 st Students who meet deadlines will receive a decision by Feb 1 and April 1

30 Financial Aid Information All schools require the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is available on line in December. File the FAFSA between January 1 and February Video Families can complete an estimator now to determine eligibility for federal aid at
