3 NEW MANAGER TO LEAD CITY FERTILITY Dorian Ransome has been appointed the Manager of City Fertility, Dorian has over 25 years of healthcare experience and was previously Clinic Manager at Bourn Hall. Dorian states This is an exciting time for the Clinic: we have refurbished and decorated with a focus on patient privacy and comfort. My first objective has been to get the basics right such as communication with patients and there is nothing more frustrating than not having your telephone call answered or your e mail replied to. We now have a full team of dedicated staff to ensure patients are communicated with in a timely fashion. The Clinic is organised to give patients individualised care, reviewing each cycle as a team with close attention to detail. We are extending our clinical services and have just started hysteroscopy and will be extending to PGS/PGD in the near future. My personal view is that deciding on a fertility clinic is a difficult choice and invite any patients in or visiting London to call into the Clinic to see the facilities NEWSLETTER 3 page 3

5 NEW LOOK FOR CITY FERTILITY In mid-january 2014 the Clinic had a refurbishment to ensure patients have the most comfortable and relaxing experience with privacy and security. MIGRAINE BEFORE AND DURING PREGNANCY Many patients suffer from severe headaches before or during IVF treatment or throughout their pregnancy. These headaches can be debilitating affecting quality of life and increasing the stress associated with IVF. At City Fertility we have the benefit of being located 2 minutes from the National Migraine Centre. The Centre has Neurologists who specialise in the treatment of headaches associated with pregnancy and pre IVF treatments. The society is a charity and payment is made by donation therefore treatment is open to all irrespective of their financial position, however for those patients with private medical insurance this should cover diagnosis and treatment and benefit such a worthy organisation. 6 HYSTEROSCOPY At City fertility our expert medical are now able to provide diagnostic and surgical; hysteroscopy in the comfort and privacy of our clinic for further information please contact the clinic. What is a hysteroscopy? Hysteroscopy is a procedure that lets your doctor look inside your womb (uterus). This is done using a narrow tube-like instrument called a hysteroscope. The hysteroscope is very slim (about 3 to 5 millimetres in diameter). It s carefully passed through the vagina and neck of the uterus (cervix) and into your uterus. The hysteroscope has a video camera inside which sends pictures to a computer screen. This allows your doctor to check for any abnormalities in the lining of the uterus. The hysteroscope has special channels which allow the doctor to pass various instruments into the uterus. This means that as well as being able to look inside the uterus, the doctor can perform certain procedures. What is hysteroscopy used for? A hysteroscopy may be used to try to determine the cause of various problems such as: Heavy or irregular bleeding that has not got better with medication. Bleeding in between your periods. Bleeding after your menopause. Irregular bleeding whilst you are taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT). If you are thinking about having an operation to make your periods less heavy (eg, endometrial ablation). Unexplained miscarriages. As well as being used to investigate the cause of various problems, it can also be used to: Remove polyps - small lumps of tissue growing on the lining of the uterus. Remove scar tissue in the uterus. Remove adhesions (areas where the walls of the uterus are sticking together). Remove fibroids (non-cancerous growths in the uterus). Before you have the procedure your doctor will talk to you about the test. Your doctor may discuss a number of different treatment options with you. This is because it may be possible to treat the cause of your symptoms immediately, using the hysteroscope. In order to do this you must agree (consent) to the treatment. That is why City Fertility has linked to experts in the fields of Acupuncture, Massage, Fertility Mind (Cognitive support and Hypnotherapy), Nutrition. As of the 1st March 2014 all patients attending City Fertility will have access to these professionals who although are independent of the clinic will have access to see patients at the Clinic. All sessions will be arranged with the respective experts and payment for services made to them- City Fertility will not be charging a premium or profiting financially in any way from this arrangement.
