INDUSTRI 4.0

History Industrie 4.0 German BMBF initiates the Science Union to identify future High Tech Trends with high impact on society First Appearance of the word Industrie 4.0 Final report of the Science Union on Industrie 4.0 BMBF-Report Securing the future of German manufacturing Industry Recommendations for implementing the strategic initiative Industrie Governmental Funding Funding program Industrie 4.0 (Research) Funding program Industrie 4.0 (Application) 200 (x2) Mio BMBF = Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung

The fourth industrial revolution FIRST Industrial Revolution Introduction of mechanical production facilities with the help of water and steam power SECOND Industrial Revolution Introduction of division of labor and mass production with the help of electrical energy THIRD Industrial Revolution Use of electronic and IT systems that further automate production FOURTH Industrial Revolution Production technology, advanced materials, automation and digitalization

Industri 4.0 er ikke alene

HVAD GØR VI PÅ AALBORG UNIVERSITET?

Smart Production A research initiative at AAU running Objectives: 1. To research and demonstrate: how manufacturing industries can benefit from emerging technologies. the new promising manufacturing technologies, concepts and methodologies coming out of Industrie 4.0 (D), Smart Manufacturing (US) and equivalent initiatives. 2. To adapt these technologies and concepts to the needs and characteristics of Danish industries Budget: 3 mill/year (funded by AAU) Additional funding for projects and equipment are expected

Everything gets smart Smart phones Smart Cars Smart Homes Smart Cities Smart Production Adopted from presentation by: Dr Detlef Zühlke, Industry 4.0 the German vision for advanced manufacturing

Interdisciplinary approach Management Automation Sustainability Smart Production Materials and processes Electronics Computer science

AAU Smart Production summary picture PhD-project Proactive factory design Supplier driven innovation Theme: Organization Long term strategic collaboration Smart production Lab Smart Production Cost efficiency Flexibility/ agility Sustainability Pilot project PhD-project Digital Manufacturing Theme: Automation Pilot project Compliant robots Big Data Cyber Physical Systems Theme: Digitalization Pilot project PhD-project

Smart Production Lab Researchers End-users Students System integrators Technology providers

Uddannelse/kompetencer Der ligger store potentialer i at anvende de fantastiske innovationer indenfor IT. Vi skal sørge for at vores studerende har kompetencer inden for dette område. Men hvad skal vi gøre: Skal vi lære produktionsfolk IT? Skal vi lære IT folk produktion? Skal vi lave en helt nu uddannelse?

Status 5 PhDs started 1 of Nov (an additional one in Spring 2016) 1 Industrial PhD 2 pilot projects One strategic collaboration agreement Industrie 4.0 training course completed (in collaboration with SAP) Preliminary collaboration agreement with FESTO and SAP. Contacts established with Danish technology/system providers and end-users

Plans within the next 12 months Additional 2 industrial PhDs (or post docs) Additional pilot projects 2-3 strategic collaboration agreements Participating in Horizon 2020 proposal Establishment of physical Smart Production Lab (we are ONLY missing ½ the $$$ )
