Exemplar: Medication Administration View short videos on Rights of medication administration Safety issues Reactions to medications Oral administration Parenteral administration Reading assignments with step by step directions

All students receive equipment to practice with at home prior to lab time. Demonstrate technique in small groups critique each other.

Reflection on the experience Personal experiences with medications Confidence in handling equipment Ability to remember steps and rules Concerns about giving medications Suggestions for overcoming obstacles

Simulating the experience

What We Have Learned Flipped classroom does not have to be an all or nothing endeavor. Lecturing is not bad but it should not be the only method of instruction especially in an applied curriculum like nursing. Do not announce that you are trying something new to students or faculty. Use what you have available first.

What We Learned Consider what else can be learned in addition to content and skills. Use the ability to create intentional encounters or learning. Be prepared to be flexible and learn to deal with ambiguity. Everyone is a learner and a participant in the process.
