SUMMER DRESS Now that the summer is here please be mindful to use good judgment in choosing modest and appropriate attire for Mass. For the Week of July the Sanctuary Lamp Will Burn for Religious Freedom PARISH HOURS Beginning Monday, June 29 and until Tuesday, September 8 our summer office hours will be from 9:30 am-4:00 pm, Monday- Friday. Emergencies at any time! MASS ON SUNDAY, JULY 12, NOON Youth parishioner and ICS graduate (2014) John Paciga has composed five beautiful hymns and Mass music, which he completed for his Freshman Project at Delbarton School this year. John would like to share his hymns and music with Immaculate Conception Parish. Please join us for Mass next Sunday, July 12, 12:00 noon to hear John s music and help bring his compositions to life! If you would like to participate in a special choir being formed for the Mass, please contact Joan Paciga at or at MASS INTENTIONS The Mass Intention Book for 2016 will open on Monday, July 13 for the reservation of Mass Intentions. It is a beautiful part of our Catholic tradition to have Masses celebrated for the repose of the soul of a departed one, or for the health and personal intention of an individual. In order to provide a greater availability to others, we ask the number of intentions should not exceed six (6) per year. Reservations may be made at the parish office during the hours of 10:00 am-4:30 pm. As we encourage this beautiful tradition, let us be reminded that Our Lord hears the prayers of all people who pray. The Sacrifice of the Mass is never exclusive to one voice! God knows our prayer and our innermost needs. He listens and responds according to His will, without favoritism, exclusivity, or preference. PARISH PICNIC Mark your calendars for the parish picnic scheduled for Sunday, September 20 from 1:00-5:00 pm. Please Melinda at or at , if you would like to help. No contribution is too small. LOOKING AHEAD The parish hall will be closed from Tuesday, August 18-Friday, August 21, for waxing. Sorry for any inconvenience. 2

PARISH BOOK CLUB The Parish Book Club reads a thriller! On Thursday, July 16, the Parish Book Club will meet in Mary House (lower level of the rectory) and will discuss the New York Times bestseller, The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. So join the Parish Book Club no train ticket needed and enjoy sharing your thoughts and friendship and ideas for great reads! For more information call Carole at ASSISTING OUR VETERANS Veterans Haven North (VHN) is located in Glen Gardner and provides transitional housing for homeless veterans. As VHN residents transition to independent living there is a need to provide some home furnishings. We have developed a process with VHN, whereby local parishes can collect furnishings and warehouse them at VHN. Our goal is to have an inventory of about 3-4 of the items listed below in stock for veterans to select when they leave VHN. The furnishings include: beds of any size, dressers, dinettes consisting of one table and four chairs, couch/ love seat, plates/utensils (service for four). We are looking for items in good condition. Please contact the parish office at or Brian Lazarus at we will then coordinate a transfer to the mini-ware house at VHN. SUPPORT GROUPS The Family Life Office in the Diocese of Metuchen sponsors two types of support groups for Separated and Divorced Catholics. The first, is a self-help support group, based on the premises that sharing one s thoughts, feelings and experiences, is one of the most helpful ways of moving beyond the pain of divorce. This is true, particularly if the other participants are going through a similar experience. The small group (limited to 10 people) is facilitated by a trained person who is also separated and divorced. The self-help support group meets once a week for 6-8 weeks. The groups are held at various locations throughout the Diocese as the need arises. The second, is a support group primarily educational, informational, spiritual and social in its scope. It differs from the selfhelp group in the following way: registration is not required, the size of the group is limited, there are fixed meeting dates usually once or twice a month, guest speakers are usually part of the agenda. Topics such as single parenting, annulments, finances, loneliness, etc. are discussed. For meeting places and times please REST IN PEACE Please pray for the soul of John Campbell whose Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated here on June 24. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen. BANNS OF MARRIAGE Stephen Meyers/Mary Kate Cunningham 14th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME God asks each of us to do some special work for Him. He gives us the resources we need to do His work. However, do we listen to God when He calls? Do we get up on our feet and give our talent to do the work He asks of us? Remember, God doesn t call the equipped, he equips the called. 4 SOLEMN TRIDUUM AND BENEDICTION The Carmelite Nuns invite you to participate in honoring Our Lady of Mount Carmel with Solemn Triduum and Benediction on July 13, 14 and 15 at 7:30 pm. No tickets are required for the Mass. No general seating will be available. The Mass is a standing event. The Diocese has made arrangements for bus transportation from various locations throughout the Diocese. A number of parishes (including Immaculate Conception) will be running bus trips to the Papal Mass which is scheduled tentatively for 4:00 pm. The exact schedule is not yet available from the event planners, but we anticipate very early departure times. The round trip bus reservations will be approximately $55 pp. Each participant is responsible for their own meal costs on that day and also any train/shuttle expenses from the parking lot to the event site and back. Pilgrims should be physically fit and prepared to walk several miles. Additional information will be posted in our weekly bulletins once the diocese has precise details.
5 JULY 5, 2015 ""He was amazed at their lack of faith." The citizens in Jesus' hometown just couldn't bring themselves to believe in him. Even though they "were astonished" when they beheld his wisdom and learned about his mighty deeds, nonetheless, "they took offense at him." What right did one of their local boys have to run around claiming he was a prophet? Prophets come from other places. Prophets are sent by God. The son of the village carpenter would never fit that bill. THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on Sundays at 1:15 pm. A Preparation Session for the parents (Godparents invited) takes place prior to Baptism and is held on the First Friday of each month at 7:30 pm. A Catholic Godparent must be a practicing Catholic, i.e. one who is free to receive the Sacraments in the Catholic Church, who has been Confirmed and can receive a Letter of Good Standing from their parish. If one of the Godparents is a baptized Christian, they will be noted in the record as a Christian Witness. A Christian Witness cannot be a Godparent, if they were baptized in the Catholic Church. Contact the Parish Office at for all arrangements and before the selection of Godparents. THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE The Common Policy for the Diocese of New Jersey requires a period of preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage, which includes sessions with the parish priest or deacon and participation in either the Pre-Cana Conference or the Engaged Encounter Weekend. Therefore, arrangements with the Parish Office should be made up to one year in advance, and before any social plans are finalized.
