1 Program at a Glance Advancing Nursing Practice Friday May 2, :30AM -5:30PM Cost: Students$20 Faculty $35 Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, UBC Volunteers/Presenters $ East Mall Vancouver, BC Registration: Nursing students, alumni, and community partners are invited to share innovative projects, scholarship and research in a dynamic, interactive and supportive setting. Our scientific program includes a broad range of clinical, theoretical, and research topics from presenters from around the province.
2 Keynotes Dr. Angela Wolff Dr. Angela Wolff completed her PhD in Nursing at the University of British Columbia (UBC, 2009), her MSN at UBC and BScN at McMaster University. She is currently the Director of Clinical Education for Fraser Health Authority and Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC, School of Nursing. Passionate about teaching and learning, she has held numerous roles in education; teaching for 7 years in undergraduate nursing programs in Western Canada and planning continuing education for 4 years at the College of Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia. A key piece of her work has been the Regional Educator Steering Committee, which has focussed on creating infrastructure, resources and supports for clinical educators to maximize Fraser Health and its services. In her role in Fraser Health she also supports the Educator Pathway Program, Interprofessional Collaborative Practice and Education, Student Practice, Specialty Education for RNs, the Nursing Research Facilitator Program, Online Learning, and the Patient Education Database. Her research focuses on the influence of different generations of nurses working together and how perceptions of being different in work values can lead to stress and conflict in the workplace. She is skilled in both qualitative and quantitative research, Dr. Wolff's recent research includes the creation of a valid instrument to measure nurses' work values; the examination of ostracism in the workplace and the social aspect of nurses' work relationships; the validation of the Educator Competency Assessment Tool; and the barriers and facilitators to student placement in Fraser Health. Her most recent research awards include 2- year MSFHR funding for a project on student placement capacity and the learning environment in the BC Lower Mainland (Co-PI) and the evaluation of a geriatric course for acute care nurses (team member). She also holds a CIHR grant for a Scoping Review of Negative and Positive Behaviours in the Workplace. Dr. Wolff is also co-facilitator of the course on survey design in Fraser Health. Her interests outside of work include spending time with her daughter (and doing baking!), biking, and rock climbing, and gardening. Dr. Danuta Wojnar Dr. Danuta Wojnar, PhD, RN, MED, IBCLC, FAAN is an Associate professor and Chair, Department of Maternal Child and Family NursingSeattle University College of Nursing. She earned Master in Nursing degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS and PhD in Nursing Science degree from University of Washington School of Nursing in Seattle, WA. In 2013 she was inducted as a Fellow to the American Academy of Nursing. Her program of research has focused on improving the understanding and addressing healthcare needs of underserved and vulnerable populations. Currently, Dr. Wojnar is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellow (RWJF ENF). Her ENF leadership project focuses on redesigning nursing curricula in partnership with WA healthcare industry to prepare next generation of nurses to become active participants in improving population health through expanding nursing roles in primary health care.
