2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE The year found Altamaha Technical College (ATC) preparing for a transition that would have significant impact on the College, our students, and the communities we serve for years to come. In August 2013, the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia announced the merger of ATC and Okefenokee Technical College effective July 1, Merger committees comprised of faculty and staff from both colleges were formed and quickly went to work. Everyone worked hard throughout the year to ensure all was ready for the July 1, 2014, merger. Words cannot express how proud I am of the faculty and staff for the hard work and commitment they showed in preparing for the merger while continuing to deliver a quality education and outstanding services to our students and communities. During the fall, ATC was named the 3 rd best two-year college in the nation by Bankrate, Inc. and 4 th best by Create a Career. These rankings were based on graduation rates, student retention rates, student-faculty ratio, tuition and fee rates, available student support, and other factors. In May 2014, we held the groundbreaking for our first building at the Golden Isles Campus. This facility will be a tremendous addition for the College and a big boost for workforce development in Glynn County and surrounding counties. We also began working with College of Coastal Georgia on a $1 million renovation to accommodate technical programs at the Camden Center in Kingsland. ATC students performed very well in state competitions. Our EAGLE (Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education) student was first runner-up in state competition, and our GOAL (Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership) student was a state finalist. Our Health Knowledge Bowl Team placed first in the state SkillsUSA competition. The ATC Foundation continued to provide support to students and the College. The Foundation held its inaugural sporting clay fundraiser and raised over $15,000 to support student scholarships and opportunities. Faculty and staff demonstrated their support of the Foundation through the Foundation s annual campaign. One hundred percent of the faculty and staff participated in the campaign, and membership in the 1% Club increased. All of this, and more, contributed to an outstanding year for Altamaha Technical College. This report celebrates our successes. As students, faculty, staff, directors, trustees, or community supporters, you played a role in helping achieve those successes. Because of you, ATC has been able to support the economic empowerment of people, communities, and businesses through our technical education programs, workforce development services, and adult education programs. As a result, new doors have been opened, lives changed, and communities improved. Thank you! Lonnie Roberts, Acting President 1 ALTAMAHA TECHNICAL COLLEGE 2014 Annual Report
