1 Description of the table of the in-situ data requirements of GMES services 1. In-situ data requirement: Contains short description of each in-situ data (including spatial data) requirement defined by GMES service(s) specified in the column GMES service which defined in-situ data requirement. Where available, scale and accuracy requirements are also specified. If relevant, links to Inspire spatial data themes (in parentheses and Italic) are provided. These links were checked and confirmed by thematic experts from European Environment Agency, European Topic Centres and Inspire thematic working groups. The list of in-situ data requirements presented in the table is an extract from the report on insitu requirements published on the GISC website. 2. Criticality of the data: Criticality of each in-situ data is specified by GMES service which defined specific in-situ requirement. Three criticality classifiers are used: : given product of the GMES service will not meet the product specification if essential data is unavailable. Data is used for product generation, validation or calibration; : data may be used for product generation, validation or calibration but only as a secondary source. Data could improve the product. Data is included for redundancy purposes; Useful: additional in situ-data not directly linked to product generation, validation or calibration. Data is primarily used to support the product generation. 3. GMES service which defined in-situ data requirement: Contains name(s) of GMES service(s) which defined specific in-situ data requirement. GMES services are components of the GMES programme. GMES services include atmosphere, emergency, marine and land monitoring. Preoperational GMES services are provided through pilot projects funded by the European Commission s 7 th Framework Programme: MACC - for atmosphere, SAFER - for emergency ; MyOcean - for marine, Geoland2 - for land. Initial operations of land and emergency service are provided through GIO and GIO EMS projects. 4. Coordinating organization(s) and data access node(s): Filled by the GISC project based on information publically available on Internet and other official sources and contains name(s) and URLs of organizations presumably responsible on national or regional level for implementing and/or maintaining data monitoring infrastructures, data collecting, data hosting and/or serving as national or international data access nodes to in-situ data specified in the column In-situ data requirement. 5. Data access policy: To be filled by the country for each of in-situ data requirement. Must provide information about legal data access framework such as: o is access to the required in-situ data free and open e.g. in-situ data can be freely searched, viewed, downloaded etc.? o is access to the required in-situ data free, but with certain limitations e.g. in-situ data access is limited to a predefined user groups or formal data request/agreement or on-line registration is required? o is payment required to access the required in-situ data (fee is foreseen to cover data processing costs)? o is the required in-situ data available only commercially? Information on main data access constrains must be also provided.

2 6. Data accessibility through data nodes of international networks/international data centres: Must be filled if relevant for each of the required in-situ data. The coordinating organizations are asked to specify data nodes of the international networks or international data centres through which access to the required in-situ data can be provided and confirm whether mandate to access these data through data nodes of the specified international networks or international data centres can be provided to GMES services and under which conditions.
